Farmhouse and cottage accommodation is provided by private families across the country and is an increasingly popular option for visitors. Accommodation, meals and organized activities such as sauna evenings, fishing trips, hiking, biking, forest outings and art camps may all be part of the package. Guests can also take part in farm chores. This option makes it possible to enjoy reasonably priced holidays tailored to the needs of individual guests.

A nation-wide five-grade classification for rentable holiday cottages, farmhouse holidays and bed and breakfast establishments is in use in Finland, according to which environmental concerns are given increasing attention. The classification makes it easier for people to find accommodation appropriate to their needs. All classified accommodation is identified with a green key symbol.

‘Uniquely Finnish’ routes have been designed for travellers who want to experience the wonders of the Finnish countryside. Bed and breakfast in farm houses, local meals, guided nature hikes and different countryside activities are available along the routes, with purchase of local delicacies and handicrafts another option.
