Summer in Finland - Refreshingly Different
Summer in Finland: long, warm, days of sunshine shimmering across harbours, lakes and waterfronts. The beautiful weather invites everyone to make the most of the wonderful outdoors. There is activity everywhere, with festivals of song and dance staged across the country that make the most of the long light evenings…
A summer visit to Finland brings a new meaning to a holiday. Surround yourself with nature at its purest, cleanest, most vibrant and spectacular. Relax on the deck of your country cottage, right by the water’s edge. The sauna beckons after a quiet day with rowing boat and fishing rod. There’s cold beer to sip and fresh fish to grill for supper. The sun sinks low but barely sets, giving you the perfect excuse to sit and enjoy the long, warm and peaceful evenings.
Or enjoy the special summer atmosphere in town: a wander among the market stalls, their tables groaning under the weight of so much fresh produce. A drink from the bar, a table for dinner on a harbourside sun terrace, and perhaps join the cheerful crowd for a late evening jazz concert.
Exploring the Country
Get to know Finland best by planning your own tour and seeing what it has to offer. There are all sorts of routes to choose from and a whole range of different accommodation options. The good news is that the roads are in general uncrowded – away from the main cities you may sometimes drive for many kilometres without seeing another car. Combine your own enthusiasms with a little expert help from us and you can be sure of a real grand tour of Finland.
Get Active
The Finnish countryside could be said to be one great big adventure playground. The water, the forests, fells and spectacular coastline provide the perfect backdrop for a wide range of exciting activities. Whether you’re a novice or an expert, you are sure to be warmly welcome as a participant. What’s more, your favourite activities can form the basis of your holiday, or you can simply give them a try for a couple of hours. The choice is yours.
If you love the water, then make sure you find time for sailing, canoeing, coastal and inland cruising, fishing or shooting the rapids. Finland is blessed with a vast expanse of lakes, many naturally interconnected interconnected. The southwest coastline, close to the city of Turku, plays home to one of the world’s most beautiful archipelagos, and offers the perfect setting for a sailing adventure or a more gentle island-hopping tour.
Don’t miss the chance to strike a ball along on of Finland’s many golf courses. At one northern course you can even hit a tee shot across the border into Sweden – an impressive boast when you met for drinks at the ‘nineteenth hole’.
Walking, cycling, horseback riding and some exotic wildlife watching (bear, wolf, lynx, deer and many species of bird) all add to the sense of adventure that goes with a summer holiday in Finland. Thanks to the uniquely Finnish concept of ‘Everyman’s Rights’, there is much greater freedom to roam freely in Finland than in most other countries. Finland's forests, lakes and rivers present incomparable surroundings in which to relax and enjoy the fresh air and unspoilt natural environment.
