Weddings and Honeymoons

Imagine the excitement of saying “I do” amid a wonderful winter backdrop of snow. No wonder Finland has become a popular choice for anyone seeking a truly special wedding venue or honeymoon destination.

Snow makes a truly wonderful backdrop to your special day and honeymoon, especially if you decide to include a night or two in a specially-made igloo or a hotel made from snow. Even Hollywood’s finest special effects technicians could not beat Mother Nature in producing the wide array of spectacular sights Finland is capable of offering in the winter time, when a dusky light and various shades of blue gently veil the seemingly endless expanse of snowy beauty and silence.

In the northernmost regions of Lapland, high above the Arctic Circle, the sum barely rises at all during the months of midwinter, but you may be lucky enough to witness a glimpse of the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis – nature’s very own breathtaking fireworks display that’s full of colour and light.

Of course, away from this magical backdrop, you can occupy yourselves with some fantastic adventures. How does a trek through the wilderness with your own team of huskies sound? Or a high-speed journey across a frozen lake on a snowmobile? Perhaps a day’s downhill skiing, or an energetic cross-country ski safari through the forest? Go further into the realms of adventure and choose a session of rally driving or winter driving skills. Then again, you might prefer to board a massive ice-breaking ship for a voyage around the furthermost northern frozen waters of the Baltic. You even get a chance to haul on a thermal survival suit and jump into the sea for a relaxing float in the water.

The opportunities for adventure and activity really are second to none, ensuring your wedding and honeymoon in Finland will be an occasion you’re sure to remember fondly for the rest of your life.

PAPER WORK:

If you decide to marry in Finland, the administration procedures are blissfully simple! You need to decide where you wish to get married and then get in touch with the minister of that church or if getting married in a civil ceremony, contact the local registry office (=maistraatti). The authorities will advice you on what you need in order to marry. All the required documents have to be legalised by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office legalisation department.

Most Finnish wedding venues will advise you on exactly what paperwork and procedures you need when you make your initial enquiry.Alternatively, contact any tour operator offering the wedding packages to Finland.
