Events and Festivals

Thousands of events and festivals of every size and description are held in Finland throughout the year, although the main festival season is the summer. Finland Festivals is a series of events, covering jazz, rock, classical, dance, visual arts, opera and every other conceivable form of cultural expression. Events around Finland via the navigators on the left.

Many of the events are staged in imaginative venues up and down the country. The Savonlinna Opera Festival, for example is held in the courtyard of the magnificent lakeland Olavinlinna castle, while the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival in eastern Finland has a charming old church as a main venue, the streets of Seinäjoki in the Ostrobothnian plains are filled with dancers at the ‘Tango Market’. The Helsinki Festival is the biggest of the lot: it’s held in the capital from mid-August every year.

Perhaps it’s the short and crazy summer that does it, but Finns have devised some of the most unusual events and competitions in the world. Seriously off-beat gatherings held throughout the country in the summer months include wife-carrying races, mobile-phone throwing contests and swamp football.

Finland has established itself as one of the most popular international congress countries in the world. Contact the Finland Convention Bureau for further information about meeting and conference places, latest congress news and the calendar of international conferences. More information from the link Finland Convention Bureau. The biggest fair and exhibition centre is the Helsinki Fair Centre in the Pasila district of the capital, more information from the link Finnexpo.
