Hole in One under the Midnight Sun

Finnish golfers come home from work at five for dinner. Then it’s straight to the course to tee off - even as late as eight o'clock. And when they sink that last 30-footer at midnight, it’s still in broad daylight. But you're on vacation. Get a round in before lunch and another eighteen holes in the afternoon. Have some dinner, relax in the sauna, and practise your putting under the midnight sun.

There are 107 golf courses in Finland. Not as many as in Britain or the United States of course, but there aren't so many people, either. The golf season in Finland lasts from May until September, sometimes even much longer. Typical summer weather is 20-25 degrees centigrade, so you won't get into a sweat when you get into your swing.

In southern Finland the sun shines 21 hours a day at the height of summer, with a few hours of twilight in between. So you can head for the greens almost anytime you want. These long days also mean that not everyone is going to want to tee off at the same time. There are far fewer players per course than in most other golfing countries.

Golf-Åland has grown over the years and today there are four courses - three full length and one short hole course. The courses are different in character and offer a wide variety of play. In a few days you'll have time to play them all.

And since the day is so long, golfers are spread out around the clock. There are dozens of Midnight and Marathon Tournaments each summer. Midnight Golf Tournaments usually start or end at midnight, or they are played all night under the Midnight Sun. Marathon Golf Tournaments feature three or even four rounds of competitive golf in one day.
