The Archipelago by the Kids

The Finnish Archipelago Sea holds more than 50,000 islands and skerries, many of which are inhabited year-round. Rosala, one such island in the Turunmaa archipelago, is home to around 140 permanent residents.

The community is tight: there are currently only eight pupils enrolled in the local school. However, the surroundings are by no means restrictive for the kids – far from it. For the kids, their archipelago is a paradise of endless possibilities. But what is it really like to spend your formative years in the Archipelago? To find out, we spent a day with the kids of Rosala, guided by 11-year-old Johan. He also provided some pro tips for travellers visiting the Archipelago.
