Helsinki-Vienna

If any country blooms in summer, it must be Finland; it is nature in full bloom. And how can it not be with over 188,000 lakes, 647 rivers, more forests than any other country in Europe, the magic of the beautiful Finnish archipelago islands and, of course, the vast raw beauty of Lapland in the far north. Read more about the exciting summer tours available from Australia. Follow the links through our site to find out more about Finland's sensational summer and what Finland has to offer and how local operators can help get you there.

Summer is also a time when Finland’s cities, towns and villages are home to hundreds of colourful cultural events to suit every taste imaginable – from rock to opera and ballet, jazz, tango, electronica. The biggest of them all is the Helsinki Festival starting in mid-August where the entire city virtually becomes the venue; it is full on music, dance, theatre. And the events are held in courtyards of ancient castles, charming old churches, centuries old cobblestone streets and squares, all generating an unforgettable ambience.

And summer is the season for one of nature’s other great delights; food. The country is abuzz with open air cafes, waterside restaurants, cool bars, outdoor markets. And the best of Finland’s gastronomy is there for the tasting. There’s flamed salmon, crayfish, Baltic herring, market stalls laden with the fruits of the forest from strawberries, blueberries and cranberries to cucumbers, tomatoes, mushrooms and the renowned red Finnish caviar.

Midnight Sun and Northern Lights

Around Midsummer in northern Finland, the sun does not set for several weeks. In Utsjoki, for example, a single, long summer day lasts for over two months.
