Snow and Ice Sculpture and Architecture
In Finland snow and ice are not only for fun and fitness. They are also for art and architecture, designed and built with so much care - only to melt when spring comes.
Fabulous snow castles – such as the annual SnowCastle at Kemi - and exotic igloos of Hotel Kakslauttanen test the imaginations of designers and architects. Snow hotels, restaurants and galleries are spectacular works of art. You can spend the night in a snow hotel or get married in a snow chapel, e.g. at Lainio Snow Village. You can even combine ice and fire. A snow sauna sounds impossible, but in Finland, e.g. at the Arctic Snow Hotel, there are places where you can steam on ice.
