Oulu

Oulu boasts internationalism and innovation.

Young and creative Oulu has, over the last century, transformed itself from a tar industry town into a high-tech city. An atmosphere of internationalism and progress has always been a key part of Oulu, and is kept alive and well today by the university of Oulu and other educational institutions.

Academic hub of the north

For conference and congress organizers, Oulu and its surroundings provide a range of venues and settings, and especially academic meetings and conferences are often organised in Oulu. Local experts covering various academic fields and research centres can be flexibly incorporated into meeting and conference programs as speakers.

For day and themed meetings, a venue and service package containing everything you need in the Oulu area can easily be put together. The conference office is happy to help even in the planning of smaller conferences.

Great connections

Oulu Airport is the second busiest in Finland, with routes operated by several airlines. The distance from the airport to city centre is fifteen minutes. Oulu has rail connections to and from all over Finland.

Within the city itself, there is no real need for transportation. The city centre is compact and main services are located within walking distance of each other.

For conference venues that are located less than a two-hour drive away from the city, a conference bus equipped with presentation and WLAN technology is available, and preparation can be done on the way to the location.

Combining Urban and rural

Oulu has a number of excellent restaurants and good shopping possibilities. While strolling about town, there’s one sight no visitor to Oulu should miss: The Market Square Policeman, an iconic statue of a chubby, grinning old time policeman guarding the shoreline in the middle of the Market Square.

Within a couple of hours’ travel from Oulu, Finland’s southernmost fell area, Syöte, the magnificent ice age landscapes of Rokua’s Geopark, Kalajoki’s famous sandy beaches and archipelago as well as the rolling hills of Kainuu are all great destinations to give your meeting experience that extra edge.
