ESHRE conference to Messukeskus Helsinki

The scientific congress will bring more than 8,000 participants from over a hundred countries to Messukeskus.

“On this occasion we were looking for a host city and suitable arena in Northern Europe. Messukeskus is able to provide our large conference with flexible and high-quality premises. An important factor behind our choice is Helsinki’s reputation as a valued conference city. Helsinki is universally accessible and has enough hotel rooms for our large number of guests,” says Managing Director Bruno Van den Eede, of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) that is responsible for organising the conference.

New Design at Hotel Hanasaari, Espoo

The revival of orange – new, impressive design at Hotel Hanasaari

Hanasaari was created as a consistent whole in the 1970s. Designed by Professor Yrjö Sotamaa, its interior was inspired by nature, art and Finnish design. The goal was to create an innovative and modern, yet intimate and warm environment. The forms were simple, but the materials – such as wood, granite and handmade fabrics – were warm and natural, as were the colours: Sotamaa used various shades of red, brown and orange. This was unusual in modernistic buildings at the time. The building was designed by architect Veikko Malmio.

ISRRT World Congress brought radiographers to Messukeskus Helsinki

The 18th ISRRT World Congress 2014 brought over 700 radiographers from 59 countries to Messukeskus Helsinki on 12 – 15 June 2014.

The four-day congress, which is organised every other year, was held for the first time in Finland and indeed the Nordic countries. There was also an exhibition in the Winter Garden, with 21 exhibitors.

“Messukeskus Helsinki s a well-run complex where everything works smoothly. Its location near but not quite in the centre of Helsinki is ideal for congresses: the city centre is easily accessible yet far enough so that participants do not wander off too easily,” says Päivi Wood, CEO at the Society of Radiographers in Finland.

Congress participants were also able to learn about Finland in events organised for them: sauna in Uunisaari island, hiking in Nuuksio National Park, and jogging round Töölönlahti Bay. There was also a This is Finland lecture about Finland, the Finns and radiography in Finland.

The Society of Radiographers in Finland organised the conference for the International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists, ISRRT.

Messukeskus Helsinki, Expo and Convention Centre, promotes Finnish welfare, by enabling profitable face-to-face meetings in fairs, meetings, congresses and other events. Messukeskus Helsinki hosts approximately 100 exhibitions and 1,400 meetings and congresses each year offering 7 exhibition halls, 40 convertible meeting rooms and the 4,400-seater Amfi Hall auditorium. The Holiday Inn Helsinki hotel operates within the same premises. In 2013, fairs, conventions and other events held at Messukeskus Helsinki attracted 10 000 exhibitors and 1.1 million visitors.
