Finland ranked 16th on the list of total international association congresses organized in 2012. The statistics, compiled annually by UIA (Union of International Congresses), saw Finland climb five positions from 21st place last year.
The listing includes 167 countries. The global number of international association congresses organized last year was 10 529.
According to international surveys, the average congress delegate stays in the locality for four days and spends approximately 350 euros per day.
In 2013, FCB is carrying out a detailed survey on congress delegates, aiming to further investigate delegates’ use of money as well as their impressions of Finland as a congress destination. Another main objective is to investigate the effects congresses have on local income and employment.
Helsinki 14th on cities list
On the list of top international congress cities, Helsinki ranked 14th, improving excellently from last year’s 25th position. A total of 110 international congresses were organized in Helsinki in 2012. The list included 1 374 cities.
