Renewed Helsinki Exhibition & Convention Centre is now Messukeskus

2013 has been a year of renewal for Messukeskus, Expo and Convention Center Helsinki.

Messukeskus has refurbished its facilities, restaurants and look over the spring and summer. Its Gallery, a lounge shared by a million users a year, has received a full makeover.

At the Conference Centre, surfaces and materials has been renewed in the lobbies and main conference room, which have places for 1,100 people. Adaptable lighting enables the “colour wash” of the facilities, according to the event theme or the hosting company’s signature colours.

The Galleria, the heart of Messukeskus serving visitors to all events, has received a complete makeover during the summer with new surface materials, colours and lighting.

Accessibility has also improved, as more escalators and a lift has been installed in the Galleria. Modern, electronic signs have been placed to provide more flexible guidance for the million annual visitors.

Professor of Nuclear Engineering awarded Espoo’s Congress Ambassador 2015

Engineering physics professor, Filip Tuomisto from Aalto University School of Science is chosen as EspooAmbassador 2015. EspooAmbassador operates as a congress ambassador of Espoo in Finland and abroad.

The award was presented 27th of August 2015 during the annual Espoo Ambassador event at Aalto University Design Factory. Professor Tuomisto is the 7th Congress Ambassador in Espoo.
The decision was based in Tuomisto’s active work in national and international scientific research groups and organizations. Professor Tuomisto has been involved in a number of program and organizing committees of international congresses, and thus have had a positive impact for the role of Espoo and Finland within the international scientific communities.

13th European Geoparks Conference 2015 Rokua, Finland

Rokua Geopark has the honor of hosting the next European Geoparks Conference. The conference will be held in Finland at Rokua Geopark and at the city of Oulu from 3rd to 6th of September 2015.

Rokua Geopark is located in Northern Finland, about 200 kilometers south of the Arctic Circle and it is currently the northernmost Geopark in the world. The closest airport is the Oulu airport, situated less than an hour’s drive from the Geopark. Besides plane, the Geopark is easy to access by train or car.

The Geoparks theme is: Heritage of the Ice Age, as the traces of the last ice age are exceptionally visible here. The bedrock here is among the oldest in Europe, as it dates back up to 2.7 billion years. Besides the geology the area has significant cultural and biological heritage.
