Pielinen Museum

Take a journey back in time and discover North Karelian history at the Pielinen Museum – the second-largest open-air museum in Finland. The museum consists of the main building and an extensive outdoor area, which includes three farmhouses from different centuries, mills, forest workers' log cabins and timber floating machinery. The Pielinen Museum is located in beautiful surroundings by the river, near the town center. You can tour around the museum area either at your own pace or with a guide.

Jewels of Lapland - A Visit to an Amethyst Mine in the Summer

Welcome to dig your own lucky amethyst stone from Lampivaara Amethyst Mine in Lapland. The amethyst was born 2000 million years ago deep inside the ancient mountains and can be found on surface nowadays. During your visit to mine you will hear stories of amethyst and dig amethyst stone yourself.

Land of Kalevala

The Finnish National Opera and Ballet is making a huge investment in the Finland 100 celebrations with a blockbuster production focusing on Finland’s history – and future. The Land of Kalevala is a ballet spectacle by Kenneth Greve. Its story touches on milestone moments in Finnish history and culture with a bold combination of various art forms. The end result will be a playful, touching and slightly mad production that can only be the work of an outside observer.

Guidance to Finnish Nature

The tour at the main exhibition will fascinate the visitor with its enthralling visualization of Finnish nature from the archipelago to the windswept fells of Arctic Lapland. During the guidance you will also find out about the ecological building and about the myths of the Finnish forests.

Guided Tour at Serlachius Museum Gösta

We get acquainted with the Art Museum Gösta, Museum of the Year 2015 in Finland. Art Museum Gösta's exhibitions cover two buildings: the classics of the Golden Age of Finnish art from the Gösta Serlachius Fine Arts Foundation's collections will be on show at Joenniemi manor, the former private residence of Gösta Serlachius. The internationally renowned pavilion, an example of modern wood construction, showcases top contemporary art.

Meteoria Söderfjärden

A visitor centre in a unique, very old impact crater: one of the best preserved out of 190 known craters on Earth. Experience the violent impact in a simulation at the exhibition, which covers a history of at least 520 million years. Walk in a model of the solar system and in an informative crater model. See and listen to the birds in their paradise and inhale the country air of this fertile agricultural area – just 10 km south of the city of Vaasa. Suitable for all ages.

Restaurant På Kroken

På Kroken is a seafood restaurant situated in the harbour of Hangonkylä. The cosy family restaurant offers everything from a tasty archipelago buffet with a unique selection of the local and traditional archipelago delicacies to fresh lobster and the famed pepper steak of Kroken. In the menu there are for example different archipelago dishes and even some dishes with a taste of the Mediterranean. Come and enjoy good food with a good wine inside the restaurant or on the terrace overlooking the harbour and the sea. An own smokehouse and the own seafood import guarantees the freshness of the food

The Aalto Route application

Alvar Aalto’s (1898–1976) career as an architect and designer in Finland and abroad was exceptionally diverse and extensive. The Aalto Route follows in his footsteps, from classicism to modernism and from brick architecture to monumentalism. The route offers an insight into the cityscape and architecture of Jyväskylä.

Birthplace of Jean Sibelius

Composer Jean Sibelius (1865-1957) was born and lived the first 20 years of his life in Hämeenlinna. The rooms of his birthplace are decorated in the style of the era between the 1860s and the 1880s, and the museum exhibition sheds light on little Janne’s childhood years in Hämeenlinna. A guided tour will provide you with more information. Chamber concerts are regularly held at the hall of his birthplace.

The Pleasure of Play is the most comprehensive Tom of Finland exhibition to date, spanning six decades to include more than 180 drawings, 1930s childhood paper dolls, the full set of 1940s gouaches along with triptychs, individual drawings, storyboards and over 300 reference pages.

Live Like a Real Finn: Wash Some Rugs!

Finns definitely have their original habits and quirks. They like hot saunas, have summer cottages far away from other people and still like to wash their rugs in rivers or the sea. Try it yourself: visit a pier and wash a rag rug with a brush! The session includes brushes, environmentally friendly soaps and rugs that need some scrubbing. While it's a memorable experience in itself, you can also keep all the objects used as souvenirs. You may also donate the clean rug to charity. Duration: 2 hours.

Alvar Aalto and Design in Seinäjoki

One of the most famous Finns in the world is architect Alvar Aalto. Aalto’s clean and timeless form language can be seen in both in details and in composition of six buildings in Seinäjoki. Civil Guard and Lotta Svärd museum is the museum for voluntary national defense, designed by Alvar Aalto. Amfora Shop has a great variety of ceramic products representing modern Finnish design. Kaarakka House houses Finnish design and distinctive local handicrafts.

Wintertime Amethyst Mine Visit

Have you ever wanted to unearth some hidden gemstones? Here is your chance! The Lampivaara Amethyst mine provides you the tools and guidance you need to dig up your very own amethyst! Ride the snowcat (a large treaded snow vehicle) up to the top of Lampivaara, where a beautiful view and the amethyst mine await you. Here you will use the tools of the trade, assisted by professionals, to dig up amethysts, and then you get to bring one of your finds home with you! If you’re lucky, you may even see the Northern Lights during kaamos (Polar Night)!

Gemstone Gallery in Kemi

A large collection of gemstones and minerals with great diversity, including a spectacular crown designed for the King of Finland. Finland celebrates 100 years of independence this year, and the crown of the King was designed a century ago – you can only see it in the Kemi Gemstone Gallery. Our collection also includes a replica of the Imperial State Crown of Great Britain and the lavish 647-diamond necklace of Marie Antoinette.

Guided Tour in Lempäälä

A one-hour guided tour where you explore a village road with shops and craftsmen. The Kuokkala Museum is a local history museum in an authentic setting with many different sections: a shop museum, a barber museum, a shoemaker’s shop, a blacksmith’s workshop with a section for transport equipment, the war veterans’ Heritage Chamber, and the hut of Kustaa Puskema. In the vicinity of the museum road you'll find the Sakkola Museum, which celebrates the culture of resettled Karelians. The museum has many stairs and high doorsteps, so it is not suitable for people with reduced mobility.
