Helsinki Book Fair

The Helsinki Book Fair is the year’s most important forum for lovers of literature and book industry professionals. The Fair has also become a notable cultural event, a place where the major issues and phenomena of our time are discussed within the context of literature.

Les Nuits – The Nights

A sensual symphony for eighteen dancers. Combining language from ballet and contemporary dance, Les Nuits – The Nights is a ballet in several scenes for adult viewers. It was created by French choreographer Angelin Preljocaj to celebrate Marseille’s year as European Capital of Culture in 2013. Angelin Preljocaj’s own company, Ballet Preljocaj, has performed the work around Europe, in South Africa and in the USA.

Tour of Old Pargas

The Old Town of Pargas is a historic center, a traditional place of commerce, old wooden houses and narrow streets. The Old Town, which is built around the medieval church, forms a valuable cultural landscape. Narrow passageways and tightly built wooden houses form a unique urban environment. A 2-hour extensive tour of the old town gives visitors first hand access to some of the small 19th century cottages and homes.

The Beautiful Canal Route

On the sightseeing cruise you will get to see the most beautiful shorelines in Helsinki and many fabulous sights, including the historic Suomenlinna Maritime Fortress, the Zoo on Korkeasaari Island, the fleet of icebreakers and Degerö Canal. Along the way you will also hear about Helsinki’s history.

Willatar Workshops and Experiences

Visitors get to explore the Willatar workshop located in the idyllic 18th century courtyard in the heart of Porvoo Old Town. In addition there is an opportunity to relax by creating small handcrafts from recycled materials. Group visitations are on request, 4-10 people

Helsinki, Porvoo & Rural Life – Day Trip

Kyrö Distillery Tour

The distillery tour (90min) takes us through history of the region and whisky and gin production. Tasting includes guided tasting of 4 products. A dinner menu is prepared by the skilled staff of Juurella-restaurant: made with local ingredients, pampering tastebuds throughout.

Exhibition: North Star, Southern Cross

The main exhibition at the Maritime Museum of Finland covers themes such as navigation on dangerous seas, the life of seamen, maritime trade, and travelling. Winter navigation and ice are also covered to remind us of the wintry conditions of Finland and the huge change that icebreakers brought to Finnish seafaring. The exhibition presents items recovered from underwater wrecks like the St. Michel which sank in 1747. The magnificent 7.5-metre scale model, in turn, brings the passenger ship S/S Arcturus and its dramatic phases to life. Don’t forget to try out the activity points!

Guided Tour Through Turku Castle

Join a guided tour through the medieval parts of the Turku Castle! Learn the fascinating history and best stories of this historical monument, where kings and queens dwelt and politicians plotted wars amidst everyday life.

Snowmobile Safari to Art Gallery

We start the safari in the morning. First we drive north by snowmobile through the Levi countryside to the village Pöntsö, where we eat a delicious Lappish lunch in the art gallery of Reijo Raekallio. After lunch, we enjoy his famous Lappish art and return to Levi. The trip takes about 6 – 8 hours.

Touch – Contemporary Finnish and International Art Exhibition

"Touch" is the title of the new Saastamoinen Foundation Art Collection Exhibition. The collection is on permanent display at EMMA, showcasing hundreds of works of art by Finnish and international artists dating from the early 1900s to the present. The overarching theme of the collection is humanity, a choice to which the collection naturally lends itself. The human being, identity, our physicality and interaction with the surrounding world have been central in contemporary art for the past decades.

Village Life, Tradition and Nature in Mathildedal (3 days)

Canadian soprano Measha Brueggergosman is a uniquely multi-talented singer equally at home with opera, gospel, and jazz. She has appeared with ensembles from the Berlin Philharmonic to jazz bands and sang everything from Richard Strauss to Joni Mitchell. Her largest audience was at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Vancouver in 2010. Measha Brueggergosman with the Orchestra and Chorus of the FNO conducted by Nick Davies promises an unforgettable evening!

Experience Workshop: a Small Art Textile with Natural Materials

In this workshop, we weave a small art textile into a prepared ribbon warp using different kinds of straws, twigs, and branches. We begin with a trip to the nature surrounding the Loikansaari estate to collect materials, after which we can already start weaving in the cosy main room of the farmhouse. If the weather is good, the entire workshop can be held outside. You will have a chance to take a look at the wonderful products of the Manor Boutique and do some shopping as well.

Self-Driving: National Park Tour Lakes – 9 Days

National Park Tour Lakes takes you to the national landscapes of Finland. You will visit the national parks of Repovesi, Linnansaari and Koli as well as the Punkaharju Ridge. A 2-day visit to Helsinki is included. Each destination includes a guided hiking or paddling tour of your choice. You will learn a lot about our nature, history and culture and will be able to enjoy our lakes also by swimming in natural waters.
