Meeting with the Shaman

In Keimiöniemi, lives the Shaman of Lake Jerisjärvi. Settle down on reindeer skins in the kota and let the open fire tune you into the atmosphere. Do you hear the ravens' gurgling croaks, the "hoot-whoo" of a Boreal Owl – foreseeing the arrival of the Shaman…? The Shaman tells you about the magical atmosphere of Lapland - and lastly, before disappearing, endows the travelers with good luck dedicating them with the magic circle of Lapland.

Meidän Festivaali – Our Festival

The landscapes of Lake Tuusula near Helsinki form the crucible of the Finnish cultural world. Pekka Kuusisto is a well-known violinist, whose award-winning Our Festival seeks new perspectives on musical encounters and concert practices, with an emphasis on giving the audience an experience that cannot be found elsewhere. Our Festival takes place in July at various locations in the landscapes of Lake Tuusula, only half an hour’s drive north of Finland’s capital, Helsinki. The programme will be announced later in the spring.

Gold Panning

Gold mining has been practiced in the area surrounding Kakslauttanen for centuries. The first gold rush took place in the 1870's – i.e. before Alaska. There is so much of this precious metal in the ground that many have been overcome with gold-rush fever and ended up staying in Lapland for the rest of their lives. Our guests get to try their luck at the gold-panning site.

SantaPark

Have fun with the elves! Experience: undercrossing of the Arctic Circle and meet Ice Princess in her Ice Gallery. At the Elves Post Office find weird machinery, that works with children’s kind thoughts. Drive the Fairytale Train as many times as you want, visit Santa Claus in his office, learn useful skills in the Elf School and decorate gingerbread cookies in Mrs. Gingerbread’s Bakery. SantaPark Café offers lunch in winter and mouthwatering delicacies, while the elves present their dance show at the main stage.

Salpa Line Museum

History in the Midst of Nature – Established in Miehikkälä in 1987, the Salpa Line Museum is a military history museum presenting the history of the Salpa Line. It covers an area of several hectares that was originally built as a defence centre for an augmented company. The permanent exhibition includes an indoor exhibition with multimedia and an outdoor museum area with guided paths in rugged and rocky forest terrain.

Nordic Walking between the Serlachius Museums

We take a nordic walk from one Serlachius Museum to another one to discover a top quality cultural destination. The route leads us through the beautiful forest and lake landscapes. The destination is either the internationally awarded Serlachius Museum Gustaf where we learn stories of history or Art Museum Gösta that has been internationally awarded for its wood architecture. Serlachius Museum Gösta was nominated the Museum of the Year 2015 in Finland.

Late Autumn Mushrooms and their Preservation

Autumn and the mushroom season are not yet over. This year’s last mushroom weekend concentrates on the species of late autumn and the secrets of mushroom preservation. The specialist of the weekend, Arja Hopsu-Neuvonen from the Martha Organization, is known as the Queen of Mushroom Pickles. The hostess of Hotel Punkaharju, Saimi Hoyer, is naturally joining us as well. Late autumn mushrooms, especially funnel chanterelles, will be the main focus of our mushroom hunting trips.

Snowmobile Safari to Art Gallery

We start the safari in the morning. First we drive north by snowmobile through the Levi countryside to the village Pöntsö, where we eat a delicious Lappish lunch in the art gallery of Reijo Raekallio. After lunch, we enjoy his famous Lappish art and return to Levi. The trip takes about 6 – 8 hours.

A Typical Day in Finland (6–7 hours)

Discover the old city of Porvoo, Finnish history and culture, and our silent Nature. After lunch in a very nice restaurant, you will walk along the river and in the empire part of the city. In the afternoon we visit nice spots with beautiful views. Then we depart to an island located 25 km south of Porvoo. We will prepare the sauna, relax, and live in the moment. Enjoy the solitude of your own beach. Later we will have a BBQ at the same location and spend the rest of the day in our little paradise before returning to Porvoo, where the day ends.

Classical Music and Quality Accommodation in Luosto

Come stay for the night and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere and landscape of Luosto during the LuostoClassic event. Packages to two hotels and three concerts are available. There are bus connections to Luosto from the Rovaniemi airport as well as from Rovaniemi and Kemijärvi railway stations.

Helsinki Design Week Festival

Helsinki Design Week is the largest design festival in the Nordic countries. Held annually in September, the multidisciplinary festival presents design from a number of fields as well as fashion, architecture and urban culture. The festival programme contains around 200 events every year, such as Design Market, exhibitions and installations.

What the Cirk? – Mini Festival

Cirko – Center for New Circus – hosts the largest Nordic contemporary circus festival each year. This year there's also a new addition, their What the Cirk? mini festival. The festival programme consists of three new contemporary circus performances.

Helsinki Winter World

Experience Lapland's wonderful winter in the city of Helsinki! Snow attractions and activities are available in any weather: igloos, ice sculptures, ice bar, toboggan hill, kick-sledding and tandem skiing. Everything is built inside a huge sports hall using snow and ice. Our weather forecast of the day is always -3 degrees Celsius, no wind, steady weather conditions. Open for individual visits from May to August, husky rides on request.

Life as a Reindeer Herder

Experience the life of a Sámi reindeer herder. Your journey starts at herder's home, where you snuggle into the snowmobile's sledge and join the herder to feed his reindeer in the forest. You may help feed the reindeer or just enjoy their company. Take a seat among the reindeer and enjoy a fresh coffee, brewed on the open fire. The feeding station offers an excellent opportunity to both observe and photograph the reindeer in the nature. The program lasts 2–3 hours, depending on the reindeer's location. Reservations on the previous evening at the latest.

Local Handicraft Workshop in Lappish Home

We invite you to visit the handicraft workshop of the local artist Mrs. Irene Kangasniemi and her traditional Lappish log-built home! After the tour at the handicraft workshop, you get the chance to make your own souvenir made of reindeer antler. Using example articles, Irene and Ari Kangasniemi tell of traditions and the reindeer antler work currently being produced at Kangasniemi House. They also use other materials collected from Lapland’s nature for their handicraft.

Exotic Dinner in The White Reindeer Tepee ”KOTA” Restaurant

Enjoy a memorable dinner by the fire in an atmospheric White Reindeer Lappish tepee ”Kota” restaurant in the Nuuksio reindeer park. An atmospheric kota is furnished with rustic wooden tables, benches and reindeer skins. Meals, e.g. glow-fried salmon, is prepared over an open fire. During your visit you can also see and feed our adorable reindeer with lichen and buy some souvenirs.

Hokuo Zakka Tour – 北欧雑貨ツアー

This tour takes you to all the best places in Helsinki for shopping Finnish brands. First we hit the Marimekko Outlet, where you're sure to find your favorite prints at a reasonable price. We then visit a fleamarket with a wide selection of vintage Arabia items, and a couple of lovely design shops.
