Alvar Aalto in Kauttua and Noormarkku

Alvar Aalto in Kauttua and Noormarkku is a two-day guided cultural tour in two old industrial heritage sites. You will relive the history of the ironworks while being surrounded by the living industry. You will visit the grand family residence, Villa Mairea and the Terraced House designed by the architect Alvar Aalto, idyllic workers’ houses and a mill museum. In the restaurants you will enjoy the Finnish cuisine at its finest and experience traditional luxuries such as sauna and swimming.

Alvar Aalto and Design in Seinäjoki

One of the most famous Finns in the world is architect Alvar Aalto. Aalto’s clean and timeless form language can be seen in both in details and in composition of six buildings in Seinäjoki. Civil Guard and Lotta Svärd museum is the museum for voluntary national defense, designed by Alvar Aalto. Amfora Shop has a great variety of ceramic products representing modern Finnish design. Kaarakka House houses Finnish design and distinctive local handicrafts.

Remote Helsinki

Remote Helsinki is a mixture of performance, excursion, computer game and quest. These 100 minutes will change your perception of Helsinki. Remote Helsinki is intended for 50 people who will walk along a carefully selected route wearing headphones and guided by an Artificial Intelligence. They will take part in an exciting performance/excursion, with streets, shops, the metro and much more supporting the theatrics. Remote Helsinki is a performance beginning in the ground and ending in the sky.

SAUNATOUR - Day as a Finn

Spend a day as a Finn and learn what it is like to live in the Arctic areas. The morning starts with a excursion in the Land of National Parks. Afternoon is hosted by Pohjola Family, the 11th generation of Pohjolan Pirtti-Farm Estate. While we bake traditional flat bread and sweet buns we learn about the life of families living in the area throughout the centuries. The day ends with an Authentic Finnish Sauna Experience in one of the SAUNATOUR saunas. Our sauna guide tells about why sauna is so important to Finns and shows you how to enjoy the Finnish sauna.

Russula – a Culinary Treasure of Finnish Forests

The forests of Finland conceal a huge secret – a vast amount of different species of the genus russula. Many simply stomp on these incredible culinary treasures while looking for chanterelles. Come and join us for a weekend full of wonderful tastes and smells. The stars of the event are Finland's number one mushroom specialists Lasse Kosonen and Jarkko Korhonen – and of course Punkaharju's keenest mushroom hunter and the hostess of Hotel Punkaharju, Saimi Hoyer.

Restaurant Ruukinranta

The restaurant Ruukinranta offers a large variety of food made out of local ingredients. The local fishermen and hunters deliver fish and meat directly to the restaurant. The fish is caught in the lake next to the restaurant (pike, pike-perch, perch and vendace). On the menu you also find several courses made of local wild elk (Alces alces).

Meteoria Söderfjärden

A visitor centre in a unique, very old impact crater: one of the best preserved out of 190 known craters on Earth. Experience the violent impact in a simulation at the exhibition, which covers a history of at least 520 million years. Walk in a model of the solar system and in an informative crater model. See and listen to the birds in their paradise and inhale the country air of this fertile agricultural area – just 10 km south of the city of Vaasa. Suitable for all ages.

Folk Music Workshops

Want to try a Kantele Workshop or a Rune Singing Workshop – or both? The kantele is Finland's national instrument, and this workshop focusses on the 5-string version. Rather than seeking perfection, the idea is to enjoy making music together – no previous experience is required. Or learn about the Finnish rune singing tradition! The chapters, runes, of the Finnish national epic Kalevala were originally songs. This workshop is an introduction to Kalevala's rune singing and its varied forms.

Land of Kalevala

The Finnish National Opera and Ballet is making a huge investment in the Finland 100 celebrations with a blockbuster production focusing on Finland’s history – and future. The Land of Kalevala is a ballet spectacle by Kenneth Greve. Its story touches on milestone moments in Finnish history and culture with a bold combination of various art forms. The end result will be a playful, touching and slightly mad production that can only be the work of an outside observer.

Guided Tour in Lempäälä

A one-hour guided tour where you explore a village road with shops and craftsmen. The Kuokkala Museum is a local history museum in an authentic setting with many different sections: a shop museum, a barber museum, a shoemaker’s shop, a blacksmith’s workshop with a section for transport equipment, the war veterans’ Heritage Chamber, and the hut of Kustaa Puskema. In the vicinity of the museum road you'll find the Sakkola Museum, which celebrates the culture of resettled Karelians. The museum has many stairs and high doorsteps, so it is not suitable for people with reduced mobility.

Helsinki Design Week Festival

Helsinki Design Week is the largest design festival in the Nordic countries. Held annually in September, the multidisciplinary festival presents design from a number of fields as well as fashion, architecture and urban culture. The festival programme contains around 200 events every year, such as Design Market, exhibitions and installations.
