Salpalinja History and Bunkers – Guided Tour

Salpalinjan Hovi is located on top of the Salpalinja defense line that was built in the 1940s to protect Finland from the Soviet Union. You can find two underground machine gun bunkers and an enormous three-story lodging-cave very close to the hotel, borrowed into the rock. According to different sources, the cave was supposed to accommodate 60 to 100 soldiers. While staying at Salpalinjan Hovi, you can explore these remarkable sites of Finnish war history with an expert guide.

Visit Ainola – Home of Aino and Jean Sibelius

Ainola was the home of composer Jean Sibelius and his family from 1904 onwards. Visitors can still experience the silence that the composer considered indispensable for his work. The timber-built villa was designed by the famous Finnish architect Lars Sonck. Away from the hustle and bustle of the nation's capital, the villa gave Sibelius the necessary peace and quiet for his creative endeavours, while other artistic families living in the neighbourhood provided a lively social circle. Today, Ainola is an authentic home museum and open to the public during the summer.

UNESCO World Heritage Site Old Rauma

Old Rauma is an extensive, uniformly wooden district dating back to the Middle Ages. Old Rauma is a living town district, where historical heritage lives on in perfect harmony with modern commerce and local residents. You’ll find an ample range of high-quality cafés, restaurants and charming little boutiques. The idyllic ambience is complemented by museums, lovely gardens, the marketplace and the impressive medieval Church of the Holy Cross.

Narrative SMAKU Walk in Old Porvoo

Enjoy tasty food in historic setting! SMAKU is a joint creation of the restaurants of Porvoo providing visitors with food portions in a journey of tastes adventure. Four individual style restaurants provide small special Smaku portions of their own choice. The Ingredients of each portion are locally produced whenever possible and of seasonal choice. A guide will tell us narrative tales about the restaurants, Finnish culinary culture and of the history of Porvoo

Matilda's Magic

The area of Meri-Teijo is a historically and culturally significant industrial area with an ironworks factory dating from the 1800s. The tour visits the Mathildedal ironworks village and its historic red-earth buildings, manor house milieu and the old factory in a region full of nature close to the sea. The tour begins with coffee and pastry in the Kyläkonttori café, followed by a walk to the ironworks factory as the guide explains the history of the old buildings. We visit the Teijo Factory Centenary Exhibition and an alpaca farm. The tour ends with lunch in the Ruukin Krouvi restaurant.

Cosy Finnish Mölkky Evening

Mölkky is a Finnish game played with throwing pins. It is easy and suitable for all ages and fitness levels. During the Mölkky Evening you will learn to play the game with your local hosts. You are invited to their home to have a snack and beverages during the game evening. Most homes can host 1–4 guests, some up to ten. Bigger groups are divided to several locations. Mölkky is an outside game and can be replaced by indoors activity if the weather is poor. No special clothing is needed; comfort is key.

Lahti Art Museum

The Lahti Art Museum was established in 1950 and, since then, it has been situated in the city center. The exhibition department presents constantly changing exhibitions showing old and modern art as well as graphic design both from Finland and abroad. There is no permanent exhibition, but works from the museums are being shown mainly at different theme exhibitions. In connection with the Art Museum there is also the Poster Museum, established in 1975. Since 1980 the Lahti Art Museum has been operating as a regional art museum of the Päijät-Häme district.

The Many Sides of Measha

Canadian soprano Measha Brueggergosman is a uniquely multi-talented singer equally at home with opera, gospel, and jazz. She has appeared with ensembles from the Berlin Philharmonic to jazz bands and sang everything from Richard Strauss to Joni Mitchell. Her largest audience was at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Vancouver in 2010. Measha Brueggergosman with the Orchestra and Chorus of the FNO conducted by Nick Davies promises an unforgettable evening!

The Tom of Finland Experience

Touko Laaksonen alias Tom of Finland has become an international gay culture icon during the years. Welcome to a theme walking tour to learn about Tom as an artist ‒ how for example a stamp decorated with his art became the most sold stamp ever in Finland? And get to know Touko the man: how life was very different for a gay man during the Second World War and decades after? This walk gets you to places you would not imagine to have a secret meaning at all. We also start the experience with a multimedia show including photos and images of Tom / Touko and his years in our beloved Helsinki.

Ahola Museum

Visit the birthplace of Lake Tuusula's artist community. The author Juhani Aho and painter Venny Soldan-Brofeldt moved to the villa in 1897 and laid the foundation for a community of artists on the shores of Lake Tuusula. The couple's long-term residence exhibits their lifework. Aho, who is considered Finland's national author, was also a vigorous outdoorsman. Soldan-Brofeldt was a visual artist, who was also influential amongst art educators and the feminist movement.

Culinary Journey Inspired by Art at Art Museum Gösta

We set out on a culinary journey, inspired by the historical tales underlying the works of Finnish painter Akseli Gallen-Kallela. The dishes will be prepared using our national treasures such as vendace, game, mushrooms and berries. From these high-quality ingredients, our kitchen creates modern classics. This themed dining with Finnish flavors includes a guided walk through Serlachius Museum Gösta's island and the park., campfire soup and a four-course dinner.

Visit to the Nuuksio Reindeer Park

Experience a touch of Northern magic at the Nuuksio reindeer park, which is Finland’s southernmost place where you can see reindeer. The park is located 35 km from the city center/the airport. You can feed the reindeer and take pictures. A coffee with bun is served by the fire in an atmospheric Lappish kota (tepee). Souvenirs can be purchased on site.

Kyrö Distillery Tour

The distillery tour (90min) takes us through history of the region and whisky and gin production. Tasting includes guided tasting of 4 products. A dinner menu is prepared by the skilled staff of Juurella-restaurant: made with local ingredients, pampering tastebuds throughout.
