Art, Design and Architecture in Southwestern Finland

The tour guides you through many fascinating destinations by car and on foot.

Hop On – Hop Off Tour

The bus sightseeing tour, where you hop on and off as much as you like, takes you to the top sights of Helsinki, such as the Sibelius monument and the Rock Church. The route is carefully chosen with 15 stops along the route. The ticket is valid 24 h and entitles you to get a discount on attractions.

Paateri

Experience the wonderful Paateri Chapel and the home and studio of sculptress Eva Ryynänen. Paateri is located in the beautiful village of Vuonislahti, about 25 kilometres from the Lieksa town centre.

Samiland Exhibition

The Samiland exhibition explores the Sami peoples' thousands of years of history, culture and mythology. Visit the indoor exhibition to find out about the differences between the Skolt Sami and the Mountain Sami as well as about the traditional occupations and ancient mythical characters of the Sami people. The outdoor exhibition will teach you more about traditional Sami buildings and reindeer herding.

Make Your Own Souvenir! Upcycling & Design Workshop

Make your stay in Helsinki unforgettable by getting a hands-on experience in Finnish upcycling & design. Participate in an inspiring eco-friendly handicraft workshop and create your own Helsinki design souvenir from recycled materials. It is a great way to relax your mind and boost your creativity at the same time. This activity is perfectly suited for individual travellers and couples as well as families with children. We also organize free workshops for underpriviledged and refugee children and their families. The workshop is available in English, German and Finnish. Feel good – do good!

The Tom of Finland Experience

Touko Laaksonen alias Tom of Finland has become an international gay culture icon during the years. Welcome to a theme walking tour to learn about Tom as an artist ‒ how for example a stamp decorated with his art became the most sold stamp ever in Finland? And get to know Touko the man: how life was very different for a gay man during the Second World War and decades after? This walk gets you to places you would not imagine to have a secret meaning at all. We also start the experience with a multimedia show including photos and images of Tom / Touko and his years in our beloved Helsinki.

What the Cirk? – Mini Festival

Cirko – Center for New Circus – hosts the largest Nordic contemporary circus festival each year. This year there's also a new addition, their What the Cirk? mini festival. The festival programme consists of three new contemporary circus performances.

Lahti Art Museum

The Lahti Art Museum was established in 1950 and, since then, it has been situated in the city center. The exhibition department presents constantly changing exhibitions showing old and modern art as well as graphic design both from Finland and abroad. There is no permanent exhibition, but works from the museums are being shown mainly at different theme exhibitions. In connection with the Art Museum there is also the Poster Museum, established in 1975. Since 1980 the Lahti Art Museum has been operating as a regional art museum of the Päijät-Häme district.

Winter Day in the Countryside

Are you interested in seeing the daily life here in Lapland, surrounded by snow and freezing temperatures? What are the daily winter routines and how people spend their free time in the countryside? We welcome you to the Willow Field House, to take part in our daily routines and free-time activities on our snowy home yard. Hear and learn how the Finnish way of life has acclimatised to our cold winters and snow. We will also enjoy a warm soup lunch together in our lounge.

Culture Pass

One ticket, three attractions! Culture pass is a handy way to experience the most interesting attractions in Rovaniemi! With the pass you can learn about the history of Lapland and Arctic research in Arktikum, get to know northern contemporary art in Korundi House of Culture and familiarize yourself with the many meanings of northern forests in Science Centre Pilke. Culture pass is personal and valid for seven days.

Pielinen Museum

Take a journey back in time and discover North Karelian history at the Pielinen Museum – the second-largest open-air museum in Finland. The museum consists of the main building and an extensive outdoor area, which includes three farmhouses from different centuries, mills, forest workers' log cabins and timber floating machinery. The Pielinen Museum is located in beautiful surroundings by the river, near the town center. You can tour around the museum area either at your own pace or with a guide.

Guided Excursion to Lainio Snow Village

We will take a bus to the Lainio Snow Village and get to know the village, snow hotel, snow bar and ice sculptures. You will learn how this magnificent castle was built. After the tour, we will have time to enjoy hot drinks in the cozy log bar at the castle. Duration about 2.5 hours.

Guidance to Finnish Nature

The tour at the main exhibition will fascinate the visitor with its enthralling visualization of Finnish nature from the archipelago to the windswept fells of Arctic Lapland. During the guidance you will also find out about the ecological building and about the myths of the Finnish forests.

Lapland Winter Experience

We teach you to listen to the winds that blow – it can be an essential observation tool. You can touch the soil – feel the softness of the moss, the hardness of the rocks. Close your eyes and let go to pick up scents from different plants and the fresh snow. Breathe deeply, the fresh air is pure and healing. Our aim is to relax, to see and embrace the beauty of the nature around us. Experience food grilled on a camp fire at Vaattunki and a hike around the area, while a guide tells you about the local animals and plant life.

Avanti!'s Summer Sounds Festival

Avanti!’s music festival Summer Sounds has been held since 1986 in Porvoo and Pernaja. Each year it focuses on an international guest composer, thus forging a living link with contemporary music and claiming an established place among Finland’s unique summer festivals.

Rye Bread Workshop: Dive into Finnish Food Culture

Finnish rye bread is made with love and unhurried enjoyment. The enchanting smell of freshly baked bread will turn any day into a celebration. The bread is baked with a sourdough starter that’s more than 100 years old, passed from generation to generation to this day. Rye bread can also be baked in a conventional electric oven, but it takes unhurried time and patience. We’ll take breaks from baking by going outside for coffee. Now, are you ready to take your first bite?

Birthplace of Jean Sibelius

Composer Jean Sibelius (1865-1957) was born and lived the first 20 years of his life in Hämeenlinna. The rooms of his birthplace are decorated in the style of the era between the 1860s and the 1880s, and the museum exhibition sheds light on little Janne’s childhood years in Hämeenlinna. A guided tour will provide you with more information. Chamber concerts are regularly held at the hall of his birthplace.

Visit the Maritime Museum

Whether you're a salty sea-dog or confirmed landlubber a visit makes for a great day out. In the museum's galleries there's plenty to see, with family-friendly interactive stations also a plenty to do. Moored beside the museum is the four-masted barque Pommern, one of the world's last merchant sailing ships, just waiting to be explored from deck to hold.
