Relaxing Holiday at Metsäkartano

Relax at the Metsäkartano Resort in the Finnish Lakeland. This three day package includes skiing, snowshoeing, and kick sledding, partly guided and partly independent. Sensing and feeling the nature, good food and accommodation in one of our holiday apartments will guarantee a relaxing holiday.

From Finland to Sweden with Snowmobiles

This safari takes you over the marshes, hills and frozen lakes in our snowy forests. We also cross the Tornionjoki river and arrive in Sweden without any official customs formalities… We will overnight at Lappean Loma in the Lappea Village, which is a very original Lappish village next to Tornionjoki. This safari requires moderate riding skills. Because of the long distance, this safari is always done with one person per snowmobile.

Big Pike Guided Fishing Trip

In May and first half of June the big pikes are hungry in the lakes of Finnish Lakeland. Detach yourself from your daily routines and take part in our big pike fishing adventure! A casual but very experienced fishing guide will show you how to catch fish by trolling at lake Kyyvesi, famous for its strong population of pike and zander (pikeperch), so catch is guaranteed. This fishing trip takes 4h and all fishing equipment is included in the package.

Critters and Plants – Introducing Archipelago Flora and Fauna

With the help of a guide, you can familiarize yourself with the archipelago's nature by examining typical plants and trees on the seashore and in forests, not forgetting the tiny creatures that live there. In addition, you can learn about the local ecosystem, environmental challenges and ways to overcome these challenges. The hands-on methods make sure this informative programme is not just a lecture, and you can really get in touch with the nature of the archipelago. There is also an option to add an after-dark programme focusing on bats.

Riverboat Cruise on the Tracks of Timber Rafting

Once upon a time there were many logs floating on the rivers of Kemijoki and Ounasjoki. Embark on the riverboat cruise and come to learn more about the timber rafting. We will cruise along the two famous rivers which used to be the route for the timber out of the woods to the mills. This excursion back to the old time will also give you the chance to admire the beautiful surroundings and Lappish nature.

Floating in the Rapids

Through freezing weather and snow-covered shores, make your way to the open rapids and go with the flow! Drift away in the gently flowing rapids – even in -30°C. Equipped with floatation suits, life vests, and helmets, you can enjoy the exciting event in full! Duration 2 x 15 min. Hot drinks are served before returning to Ruka by car. Minimum height 160 cm required.

Archipelago Cruise to Gustavsvärn and The Pike's Gut

Gustavsvärn is the best kept part of a four-part larger whole of fortresses outside Hanko. The little islet contains the ruins of a fortress built by the Swedes in the late 18th century, as well as a lighthouse from 1951. Tha Pike´s gut is a narrow strait between two islands outside Tulliniemi. There are over 640 kept rock carvings on the islands. the earliest ones are from the 16th century.

Private Visit to Family Husky Farm and Sleigh Ride

This is a great experience for anyone travelling with small children. Come join us at our Husky farm and feel part of the team. Harness the dogs, hug and play with them. Once we get going, we will travel in easy terrain and cross the frozen lake. Afterwards we will cook delicious pancakes in the warmth of the house or by the campfire, depending on the weather. And there's plenty of time to play in the snow! Duration: 2 to 3 hours

Bear Watching Evening

Bear Kuusamo Ltd offers a chance to see wild brown bears in their natural environment. There is a 200m walk along a path from the parking place to our comfortable watching buildings. During the best bear season (June-August) we guarantee 99% possibility to see bears during the evening.

Husky Trekking Week in Kuhmo

Join us for a guided week trekking with huskies! Every hiker will get their “own” husky and a local guide to show the way through the forests. Hikers will also be provided with special husky-trekking gear; a shock-absorbing leash between the hiker and the dog and a comfortable belt on the hikers' waist. Accommodation will be at the husky farm or if wished, in a lakeside hotel – a perfect combination of wilderness & wellness, hiking & huskies, outdoor life & relaxation.

Tour to Bear’s Den

Have you ever wondered where bears sleep during Finland's winters? During the Bear’s Den Tour, you get to explore three different lairs: one under a large boulder, the second one in a pit covered with dense spruce and the third one in a large cavity. Your guides are experienced men of the forest who have themselves faced the danger of seeing a bear in the wild. Sometimes you will get to see bear footprints and their claw marks on pines they have climbed.

River Rafting Family Route

Family friendly river excursion with 7 easy-going rapids. River rafting family route Käylä-Juume. You meet your guide in our summer office Juuma village, where you get all the equipment needed. Your guide will give you safety instructions before heading off to the river. The route follows river Kitka from Käylä back to Juuma where we started from. On this 14 km route you will experience 7 rapids and beautiful surroundings.

Mountain Biking Action at Iso-Syöte

Iso-Syöte and surrounding area is a great starting point to go out and explore nature by biking. The Iso-Syöte hill, on top of which the hotel is located, gives you magnificent views to all directions. The national park which surrounds the hotel, offers 3 well-marked mountain bike routes to explore through various terrain and from different length and difficulty. New Felt-mountainbikes are available for you to go out and explore these trails. Comfortable accommodation, tasty food, a pool, sauna's and jacuzzi's are waiting for you to relax in and enjoy. During the winter we have Fatbikes.

Experience Lapland – Ice Fishing

Ice fishing is a very popular leisure time activity for local people in Lapland, it suits everyone! Rovaniemi is ideal for fishing buffs: we have a great selection of frozen rivers, rapids, lakes and ponds in the area. We take you ice fishing on a lake in the middle of primeval forests. After that, we have a cookout experience with campfire grilling on a snow field. The menu includes Lappish reindeer meat sausages, boletus mushroom soup, salmon, and Lappish blueberry wine. Your fresh catch from the ice can go on the grill as well. The whole tour takes 4–5 hours.

Wilderness Lodge and Northern Lights

This overnight tour will provide you a perfect get-away from the city lights with an opportunity to watch the sky for the whole night. After an early evening departure from Rovaniemi we will drive to the Arctic Circle Wilderness Lodge, about 20 minutes away. There, hidden in snow, in the middle of the wilderness, in complete darkness – a private cosy Wilderness Lodge is waiting for us! Traditional Lappish home-made food will be served while waiting for the Northern Lights. We will stay in cosy twin rooms of a traditional Finnish log house, and breakfast will be served in the morning.

Like an ancient inhabitant, we follow the water as it flows from lakes and rivers to the sea. During the tour, you may enjoy our clear lakes, fresh nature and the hospitality of your host families. This nature tour includes easy activities, meals by the campfire, and visits to two national parks and to a Unesco World Heritage site. Included activities: hiking, paddling in a large canoe, white water rafting, cooking on open fire, etc. The tour is suitable for anyone older than 12 years. The tour at the main exhibition will fascinate the visitor with its enthralling visualization of Finnish nature from the archipelago to the windswept fells of Arctic Lapland. During the guidance you will also find out about the ecological building and about the myths of the Finnish forests.

Adventure in B&B Kirjakkala Ironmills Village

In Teijo National Park you can experience Finnish nature on a mini-scale; lakes, forests, marshes, streams and the sea. The National Park is also a gateway to the archipelago. There's more than 50 km's of marked trails with cooking shelters along the way. You can trek, cross-country ski, fish, cycle, pick berries and mushrooms or go wild swimming. Kirjakkala Ironmills village was established in 1600's and tells you the story of Finnish industrialization. The environment has been preserved for more than 300 years. Old buildings are in new use as accommodation now.
