Bear Watching Evening

Bear Kuusamo Ltd offers a chance to see wild brown bears in their natural environment. There is a 200m walk along a path from the parking place to our comfortable watching buildings. During the best bear season (June-August) we guarantee 99% possibility to see bears during the evening.

Nordic Walking between the Serlachius Museums

We take a nordic walk from one Serlachius Museum to another one to discover a top quality cultural destination. The route leads us through the beautiful forest and lake landscapes. The destination is either the internationally awarded Serlachius Museum Gustaf where we learn stories of history or Art Museum Gösta that has been internationally awarded for its wood architecture. Serlachius Museum Gösta was nominated the Museum of the Year 2015 in Finland.

Ice Climbing at Ruka Ski Resort

The ice-climbing program is suitable for adults and children who like to challenge themselves and are not afraid to try new adventures in a safe winter environment. The program is moderately demanding, but suitable for beginners. You do need to be in decent physical condition – i.e. strong enough to use the axe on ice. Ice climbing in Arctic conditions can be a very powerful experience. We will help you feel confident as you explore the ice wall, and you will come out of the experience feeling mentally stronger. Kalajoki Nature and Culture Tour

Hike on ancient beach formations, sand dunes, forest trails and meandering river banks. Ride a bike along small roads and nature trails. See traces of local history, how a river can constantly change its course, sandbanks that lined ancient shores, and the living Finnish countryside. This three day tour includes accommodation and half board. You will be guided by a pre-programmed GPS device which acts as a map, compass and route description. A special Nature & Culture guide booklet with maps is also included.

Arctic Island Adventure

Arctic Adventure Island is a short ride away from the SnowCastle area. In order to get there, we need to cross the frozen sea and that happens comfortably in the warm Olokolo-nest. Once on the Island, we may enjoy the peace and quiet and beautiful scenery while exploring the Island on snowshoes. Afterwards we will warm up and make Finnish pancakes by the fire.

Experience Speed at Levi Bike Park

Hit the free routes on a downhill bike in the Levi Bike Park. Built on the western slope of the Levi fell, the Bike Park offers mountain biking in a beautiful landscape. The program is also suitable for beginners and children over 12 years. All participants under 18 years must present a permission slip signed by their parent. The package includes hire of a downhill bike, safety gear, Gondola lift ticket and tuition. Please remember to bring your own water bottle. Duration 1,5 – 2 hours.

Northern Lights Exploration

The highest probability of seeing the Northern Lights in Finland is from October to April. Sometimes you can get lucky and see the Aurora Borealis in Helsinki, but you are more likely to see them above the Arctic Circle, where Santa Claus also hails from. We can customize your trip and either go by foot, reindeer or husky and chase the Northern Lights in Lapland. It is also possible to discover the Northern Lights from a private jet or helicopter in Lapland. Magic happens, enjoy your dreams.

Guided Ice Fishing Trip

During this guided ice fishing trip, you will get to know traditional Finnish wintertime fishing. Our guide will teach you the basics and give special tips for catching perch, zander (pikeperch), and pike. Ice fishing means fishing through a hole in the ice that covers the lake. The hole will be drilled with a special ice drilling tool. An ice fishing backpack is included in the price (one per person) and you get to keep it afterwards. The ice drill is on loan. At the end of the fishing trip, the guide shows you how to prepare fish according to Finnish traditions.

Arctic Survival Mini Courses in Pyhätunturi

What is a quinzee and how do you actually survive in the arctic wilderness? Join us at Pyhätunturi and we will take you out for an all-night arctic survival mini course. You will have the chance to build your own snow quinzee also know as a snow shelter, sleep under the stars and learn first-hand skills on winter survival. We also provide half-day courses and theory lessons, just ask for more information. Our guides are certified by the Finnish Survival Guild, experienced arctic explorers and have been teaching survival skills for many years.

Turku - Åland Islands Cruise

Day cruise to Mariehamn takes 12 hours. Spend a day in the archipelago – cruise with M/S Amorella from Turku to Mariehamn. In Mariehamn you change ships for the return trip with the new M/S Viking Grace. Enjoy the modern interior design, exciting restaurant concepts, and the largest floating tax-free shop in the world, combined with the beautiful scenery of the archipelago.

Day of Animal Fun and Water

A day full of fun with animals and water makes for a true Northern autumn experience. Our first destinations will be a husky farm and a reindeer farm. Learn all about the animals and what goes into the running of the farms, the daily task of caring for and training the animals, and get a ride in an “autumn carriage” pulled by a dogsledding team. Next we’ll retreat to an outdoor fireplace to cook up a meal of sausages, mushroom soup, and blueberry tea, as part of a fishing trip out on the lake in a canoe. Of course, anything you catch, we can grill!

Husky Trekking Week in Kuhmo

Join us for a guided week trekking with huskies! Every hiker will get their “own” husky and a local guide to show the way through the forests. Hikers will also be provided with special husky-trekking gear; a shock-absorbing leash between the hiker and the dog and a comfortable belt on the hikers' waist. Accommodation will be at the husky farm or if wished, in a lakeside hotel – a perfect combination of wilderness & wellness, hiking & huskies, outdoor life & relaxation.

Reindeer Safari – Rovaniemi

A memorable reindeer sleigh ride. Transportation by car to a reindeer farm, where you can try reindeer sleighing. This traditional way of travelling through snowy forests is a unique experience — in the evening, you may even see the Northern Lights blaze up the sky. Enjoy a hot cup of coffee with a bun at our campfire and learn about the life of reindeer herders.

Experience Lapland – Ice Fishing

Ice fishing is a very popular leisure time activity for local people in Lapland, it suits everyone! Rovaniemi is ideal for fishing buffs: we have a great selection of frozen rivers, rapids, lakes and ponds in the area. We take you ice fishing on a lake in the middle of primeval forests. After that, we have a cookout experience with campfire grilling on a snow field. The menu includes Lappish reindeer meat sausages, boletus mushroom soup, salmon, and Lappish blueberry wine. Your fresh catch from the ice can go on the grill as well. The whole tour takes 4–5 hours.

Reindeer Safari and Northern Lights Hunting

This is a night to remember! Travel by car for 20 minutes to the start of the adventure at a local reindeer farm. Once you arrive, meet the animals and learn a little about them before taking a seat in a traditional sleigh, pulled by reindeer. Travel through snowy forests sitting comfortably, and who knows, perhaps the Northern Lights paint the skies in shades of green above you. A hot cup of coffee with a bun is served around a campfire. You also get up close to the reindeers and learn about reindeer husbandry from the friendly herders.

Village Life, Tradition and Nature in Mathildedal (3 days)

This packeage is for those who enjoy peaceful walks in the woods, beautiful scenery and idyllic villages. Birdsong, campfires and calm included. The package includes 2 nights in a double room at Ruukin Majatalo, breakfast included. Day 1: Nature day in Teijo National Park: a hiking map, kindling for campfire, and lunch box included. Enjoy a refreshing Finnish sauna (1 h) and swimming. Day 2: Experience idyllic village life — live and love like locals. Visit an alpaca mill, the local brewery, bakery, and coffee rostery. Enjoy coffee and cakes at the Café Kyläkonttori.

Ice Fishing Trip to River Ounasjoki on Snowmobiles

We set off on snowmobiles to River Ounasjoki. On arrival at a genuine Lappish hut, we enjoy coffee and a small bite to eat. Then we try our luck at luring the fish with ice fishing equipment. Any fish caught will be glow fried at the end of a stick on the open fire. The journey on snowmobiles covers approximately 25 km. Duration: 2–3 hours.

Open Sea Salmon Trolling

This one day long salmon trolling on the Gulf of Finland is available from late May until end of July. The fishing trip suits both experienced fishers and beginners. There is a possibility for a light lunch onboard the boat.
