Accommodation at Guesthouse Backaro

Welcome to Backaro, a small, cosy guesthouse located on the island of Nötö within the Archipelago National Park in South-Western Finland. We have built and renovated Backa gårds old house to a comfortable guesthouse with cosy single and double rooms upstairs. Our recreational activities include boat rental and fishing trips, and you can also enjoy of the lovely heat of our wood heated sauna.

A Day at Lake Jeris

Learn about the 500 years of history of hunting and fishing in the area. Feast on the catch while listening to exciting legends of the fells and afterwards enjoy a refreshing swim in the lake. A journey in time to the history of the Kemiöniemi fishing huts by a master storyteller, the total experience of seine fishing, freshly smoked whitefish, coffee made on the open fire accompanied by house berry pie, stories and legends by the open fire. Life vests available, swimming allowed.

Ice Climbing Day in Korouoma Canyon

Ice Climbing Day Trip to the Korouoma Gorge in Posio, where the mightiest ice falls in Finland are located – some up to 60 meters tall. It is an amazing conservation area with rich flora and fauna. Experience Finland's best ice climbing venue with professional guides. Korouoma is located roughly 2 h 30 minutes by car from Pyhätunturi, 1 h 30 minutes from Rovaniemi.
 An overnight stay nearby the gorge is also possible for additional cost (a basic wilderness hut or a comfy cottage).

Night of Reindeers and Northern Lights

Escape with us from the city for a night of reindeer culture and Auroras. Visit a traditional Finnish reindeer farm about 60 km from Rovaniemi and learn all about reindeer husbandry and the daily life of caring for them. Enjoy a traditional reindeer meat meal prepared right at the farm. After dinner, it's time to go out to our Northern Lights viewing location, where we’ll make a campfire and our guide will explain this amazing natural phenomenon.

Hiking Trip and Visit to a Reindeer Park in Nuuksio National Park

This tour takes you for a relaxing nature hike in the peaceful, clean and wild forests of wintertime Finland. You will also see a glimpse of Lapland near Helsinki, when we visit a reindeer park in the Nuuksio National Park. The trip includes transportation and we can start the trip from your hotel in Helsinki, at the Port or from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport.

Archipelago Route to Kustavi - Fabulous Cruise from Naantali

Fabulous crossing on board the M/S Aavatar in summer on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The enchanting route from Naantali, via Taivassalo to Kustavi is a shortcut for cyclists and a mini cruise for others spending time in the archipelago; there is a variety of magnificent destinations along the way for day and overnight trips. You can buy beverages (fully licensed) and small snacks on board.

Trip to the Lappish Goldfields

Transport by car to an original Lappish goldfield located near Saariselkä. We will meet original gold diggers and learn about today's gold digging and panning methods. After learning the ways to find gold, we get the chance to try the hard work by ourselves. Shovels and pails are waiting for us at the ditch and off we go! After a while of hard work, the real gold digger helps us to find the gold and jewelry stones by panning. During the trip we'll have coffee and pancakes.

Arktika – Birdwatching Trip

The Rakin Kotka Eco Island is in the middle of the Artic migration route of the Gulf of Finland.
