The fortress island of Örö has been a part of Finnish military history from the times of Russian tsars. The island was closed off from the public until 2015 and only restricted entry was possible. Örö has around 20 km of hiking and nature trails. The island is home to many rare plants and has the largest variety of butterflies in all of Finland. The hotel and restaurant are renovated in protected old buildings. You can rent kayaks and bicycles on the island. Come and explore the fortress island!
