World Heritage Cruise to Valsörarna

We offer boat trips amongst the small rocky islands of the Kvarken Archipelago and World Heritage Cruises to Valsörarna. The boat sets out from Svedjehamn, Björköby and there is a guided tour along the nature trail when you reach Valsörarna. Coffee and sandwiches are served on the island.

Circus with the Stars

Cirque du Soleil trapeze artist, Pauliina Räsänen, and world champion acrobat, Slava Volkov, are offering a unique opportunity to spend an enthralling day participating in circus-art workshops. The program includes a circus-art workshop where participants will learn various circus disciplines such as the tightrope, the trapeze, acrobatics, as well as manipulation and juggling skills. No previous circus experience is required and exercises are designed according to capabilities. Groups will also pay a visit to the Kustavi Clay Workshop in the heart of the archipelago.

UNESCO World Heritage Site Sammallahdenmäki

This unique area reflects the religious beliefs and burial practices of a community in Western Finland in the Scandinavian Bronze Age and early Iron Age (1500–50 BCE). Spanning less than a kilometre, the area feartures 36 burial cairns of different shapes and sizes. The largest and most famous cairn in the area is called Kirkonlattia (Church Floor). Sammallahdenmäki is a Bronze Age burial site that was included on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1999. It was the first archaeological site in Finland to make the list.

Walk in the Shadow of Architecture

Explore on foot the signature buildings of Turku’s modern architecture and other fascinating structures. Architect Alvar Aalto resided in Turku between 1927 and 1933. During this time Turku played a significant role in the emergence of new architecture and furniture design. On this tour a guide introduces you to the exterior of three transitional works of Aalto’s functionalism: the Maalaistentalo, the Turun Sanomat as well as a standard apartment building. The tour presents another functionalist, Erik Bryggmann. Hotel Hospits, Atrium and Student Union buildings are examples of his work.

Struka Villa

Struka villa is a cozy riverside property for 10-12 people located in Pyhtää, only 1 hour drive from Helsinki. The villa is a suitable holiday location all year round. Villa has a spacious living area downstairs with a kitchen, dining area and lounge with a wood burning fireplace. The Stuka villa has extensive grassy grounds that are ideal for children to play in. The large terrace is great for admiring the river view and for enjoying a barbecue on a convenient gas BBQ. On the villa yard there is also a barbecue hut and a wood-heated hot outdoor tub.

During summer evenings Steamship Ukkopekka sails from Turku to the fascinating small island of Loistokari. The nature and surroundings on the Åland Islands provide Head Goldsmith Maria Karlström with shapes and forms for her unique jewellery. For more than a decade GULDVIVA’s home has been in Sjökvarteret in Mariehamn, where an old fish smoker’s cabin amongst the boatsheds was turned into a shop. The workshop is located in the countryside, surrounded by nature.

Trail of the Sludges of Yyteri

Trail of the Sludges (Lietteiden reitti in Finnish) takes you to the finest nature destinations of the Yyteri Peninsula, as well as to the Bothnian Sea National Park. Enjoy of the magical atmosphere of the coastal forests and meadows, and admire the magnificent sceneries opening up to the sandflats from the nature observation towers. During the migration seasons, Finland’s best known destination to observe waders is the sandflat area of Yyteri, where almost 30 species of them stop yearly. Here you can also observe the impressive common shelducks. So do not forget to pack your binoculars!

You have the opportunity to visit the whole Ironworks Village with a guide who will tell you about both history and present day at the ironworks and the buildings, or you can just simply make the walking tour on your own. Ahlström Works in Kauttua also provides accommodation and high-quality restaurant services.
