The Silent People

On the side of the E-5 highway, some 30 kilometres from Suomussalmi towards Kuusamo, a startling army of strawheads – The Silent People- stops the travellers in their tracks!

The Silent People were put up in its current location in the autumn of 1994 by the dance artist Reijo Kela and has become the landmark of Kainuu and most probably the internatioally best known sight in the province.
