Pori Jazz Festival takes place annually in the middle of July. Pori Jazz gathers the superstars of jazz and other rhythm music in Pori. During the nine festival days there are about 140 concerts – over half of them free of charge. Pori is located on the west coast of Finland. It is about and 240 km away from Helsinki, 110 km from Tampere and 140 km from Turku.
The beginning of the Pori Jazz Festival in 1966 was quite modest with only two concerts and one jam session. The main concert attracted some 600 people. With the total of 150 000 visitors and way over 100 concerts each year the jazz festival is today one of the most popular festivals in Finland.
The 5-day-long family event, Pori Jazz Kids Festival, offers dozens of musical workshops, concerts and performances for children on three different stages. Access to all concerts and workshops is free.
