Suomenlinna is a historical sea fortress, a popular attraction and a residential area. The sea fortress, built on islands just off the coast of Helsinki, is a national monument and one of Finland’s cultural treasures. Today, Suomenlinna is a city district with 850 residents.
The sea fortress has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Suomenlinna is only a 15 minute ferry ride from the Market Square. Within the fortress there are six museums and open-air theatre, exhibitions and quality handicrafts are offered. The island has a selection of restaurants, charming cafés, and its own brewery with a beer garden.
