Forsfärder

På vintern täcks marken av minst en meter snö. När allt smälter bort i april och maj stiger vattennivån i älvarna i norra Finland.

Om du inte är väldigt erfaren och duktig bör du inte prova forsränning i kanot eller kajak. Men om du följer med en erfaren guide i en gummiflotte eller träbåt kan det vara en hisnande upplevelse att forsa fram i de snabba älvarna.

Forsarna i Ruunaa i norra Karelen är populära. Det finns liknande platser i andra delar av landet, t.ex. Kuusamo-området och i Lappland. För erfarna kanotister erbjuder Torne och Muonio älv hundratals kilometer med bra paddlingsmöjligheter längs gränsen mot Sverige.
