There are lakes of all shapes and sizes in very region of Finland, but the eastern part of the country is especially well-endowed with water. The Saimaa lake system, following roughly the eastern border with Russia, is a vast interconnecting network of waterways, and the lakes continue further west to Kuopio and north to Nurmes.
