Eastern King's Road: Porvoo - Loviisa - Ruotsinpyhtää

PORVOO > LOVIISA (37 km)
From Porvoo (Borgå) you can either take the E18 via Pernå (Pernaja) or the Old King’s Road 170 to Loviisa. If you take a detour along route 1580 south to the village of Pernå, you will find charming, protected coastal landscapes. We recommend a visit to Labby Farm where you can enjoy a peaceful atmosphere, cattle and organic corn. You will also find a bakery and a shop that sells organic herbs, vegetables and bread. B&B.

Loviisa (Lovisa) is an idyllic coastal town, most famous for its fortress structures and wooden houses in the Old Town. The present city centre has its origin in the 18th century. Take a pleasant cruise to the Svartholma fortress and, if you are in the city on the first weekend in July, you can participate in the Loviisa Festival together with the inhabitants of the town. They will be dressed in their 18th century clothes to celebrate the memory of the king’s arrival to Loviisa.

LOVIISA > RUOTSINPYHTÄÄ (18 km)
TThe trip will continue eastward along E18 to Ruotsinpyhtää. This road is also famous as the King’s Road that connected Sweden to Russia. Diplomats, merchants and military forces travelled along this road.

Ruotsinpyhtää (Strömfors) The ironworks from 1695 in Ruotsinpyhtää is a genuine works milieu with factories and workmen’s dwellings and its own church on the bank of Kymmene River. In the village church there is an altar painting by the artist Helene Schjerfbeck, Puistokuja 19, tel. +358 (0)19 618 474.

Continue the trip along King’s Road (E18) to Kotka.
