The King's Road West Touring
Western King's Road: Pohja - Teijo (Perniö) - Salo - Turku

POHJA > TEIJO (PERNIÖ) > SALO (59 km)
Drive from Pohja along road 111 to Tenhola (Tenala) and from there take route 52 towards Salo. In Perniö turn to the left to road 1825 towards Mathildedal and Teijo recreation resort.

Meri-Teijo in Perniö is one of the largest recreation and holiday resorts in Finland, with good opportunities for active recreation including golf, trekking, fishing and swimming.

Return to route 52 and turn left towards Salo.

A centre of trade since ancient times, Salo is known today as a city of business and industry, a production centre of sophisticated mobile telephones for "connecting people". Prehistoric remains show that Salo was one of the first districts in Finland to be inhabited.

A place worth visiting in Salo is the Salo Art Museum Roundhouse which is located in a century-old locomotive hall. Art reference library, magazines, shop, café. For more information, tel. +358 (0)2 778 4887. www.salomus.fi.

Continue on motorway 1/E18 towards Turku. At the gates of the city of Turku lies the small town of Kaarina where you find Kuusisto Manor. The main building dates back to 1738 and is one of Finland’s oldest wooden residential buildings and displays three exhibitions which tell about the events in Bishop’s Castle, the restoration of the ruins (situated nearby the manor), the history of manor house and Kuusisto’s natural surroundings.
