Finland has about 200 holiday villages. Most of them are in the central lakeland area but there are also a number on the coast, on the islands off the coast, in the Aland islands and in northern and eastern Finland.

The villages differ in layout. In some, the cottages are in a row fairly close together, in others they are scattered over the area and can be as much as 100 metres apart. Many holiday villages adjoin camping sites. Almost every cottage has its own boat. The cottage usually consists of a combined sitting room and bedroom, and a kitchen with a gas or electric cooker, fridge, crockery, cutlery and kitchen utensils. Bed linen and towels are not always included. There is often running water and a WC in the cottage. A sauna will be available in the village.

Peak season: In summer from mid-June to mid-August. Some villages hire out cottages for a minimum period of one week. The best holiday villages are open all year round and are excellent for a winter holiday and skiing.

Prices range from 115 to 510 euros per week per cottage, although luxury bungalows may cost as much as 1100 euros per week in some villages. Those in the top price bracket have several rooms, all modern conveniences and TV. Some villages also include a restaurant and a hotel.

Recreation and entertainment: Many villages arrange programmed holidays, including boat and fishing expeditions, grilling fish or sausages on the shore, rambles in the surroundings, minigolf, tennis, volley ball, wind-surfing, canoeing, riding, water-skiing and cycling.
