Snowboarding

Most resorts In Finland now cater for a whole range of experiences, from the renaissance of the old style of ‘telemarking’ to the more recent fashion for snowboarding.

Winter in Finland, snowboarding in Lapland

Resorts have half-pipes for snowboarders and many also have snowboard streets with jumps and rails. Today, half-pipes and fun parks are included in the standard facilities of almost any winter sports resort. Many resorts employ specially trained instructors for those who have not yet discovered the thrills of snowboarding. Many ski schools even include Free Style - daring ski acrobatics - in their instruction programmes.

The season in Lapland and northern Finland begins in early November and lasts into May; in central Finland it begins at the end of November and lasts until April; and in southern Finland it begins in December and lasts until early April. Snowboards, boots and helmets can be hired. Some resorts have ski suits for hire.
