Boating (Rowing and Sailing)

Finland’s Wonderful Waterways

Regions in Finland, Åland Islands

Finland’s coastline and vast network of inland waterways provide endless opportunities for boating of every kind. The exciting coastline of romantic islands, bays and inlets brings out the adventurer in everybody, while the expanse of lakes offers unequalled relaxation in a staggeringly beautiful setting. You can enjoy the therapeutic solitude of these waters in any manner of boat, from a small rowing dinghy to a full-scale sailing yacht or motor cruiser.

However, the rugged nature of the islands and the irregular shorelines present challenges for sailors, and you need to make various preparations if you are planning an expedition by sea.

Navigating in the Finnish archipelago, with hidden rocks where they may be least expected, requires concentration and possession of up-to-date sea and boating charts. The Finnish Maritime Administration produces general charts for open sea sailing, coast charts for coast and archipelago sailing, and special charts for harbour traffic. A series of nautical charts is produced particularly for boating enthusiasts.
