A combination of beautiful island landscapes and a string of fascinating and welcoming ports of call make the coastline of southern Finland a unique cruise route, from Mariehamn in the western Åland archipelago, through the past and present capitals of Turku and Helsinki, to the town of Kotka in the east. Variations include a cruise to St Petersburg, the magnificent monument to Tsarist Russia, just across the eastern border, or a detour along the Saimaa Canal to the eastern lakeland ports of Lappeenranta and Savonlinna.

Helsinki’s importance as a Baltic cruise port grows with each passing year: well over 200 luxury cruise ships call in to its harbour every summer, carrying visitors from the US and the rest of Europe who include the Finnish capital on an itinerary that may run from the UK to St Petersburg and back via Riga and Copenhagen. The Baltic cruise ferries linking Helsinki and Turku and Stockholm also pass through the Åland archipelago, and there are cruise services to Tallinn in Estonia, Riga in Latvia and Visby on the Swedish island of Gotland.
