Most cottages are in sparsely inhabited, quiet countryside, often with a farm nearby selling food or handicrafts. Hire a cottage on Åland, a wide range of lodges and cottages - a total of 500 - both in "cottage communities" and in more private locations.

Of the 10,000 or so rented cottages in Finland, 5000 can be reserved through booking centres. The cottages differ in standard of amenities and setting, but all are fully furnished and equipped with cooking facilities, bedclothes, lighting and fuel for heating. Visitors need only bring their own bed linen and towels.
