Fishing

Hooked on Finland

Fishing in Finland, fishing boat on the Helsinki waters

The clean, pure waters of Finland, teeming with fish, provide a fabulous variety of fishing opportunities. The diversity of fishing sites is perhaps the greatest attraction for anglers. You can enjoy wondrous lakes and our unique archipelago, not to mention the rivers and rapids coursing through our vast forests. You can even fish in the winter: ice fishing through holes in the frozen lakes and sea is an ancient but still very popular Finnish tradition.

Our fishing waters will present you with a challenge, whether you are a serious connoisseur or an amateur casting your line just for fun. You can choose to fish on your own or take advantage of the skills of local fishing guides, who will steer you to the best locations. What could make a tastier meal than your own catch after a day spent in the great outdoors?

When fishing is a passion, we recommend the salmon-rich rivers of Lapland and the Archipelago, teeming with sea trout and pike. When fly-fishing, Lapland is an obvious choice, but Central Finland also has some very exciting trout rapids. Guides are available at most sites to help you become familiar with the surroundings: then it's off to catch the big one.

Åland offers a diversified archipelago with many small islands and skerries, fine sea bays and long coast lines with short distances between inner and outer archipelagos. Fish from pike, perch, pikeperch and whitefish to sea trout and salmon, all thrive in the Åland fishing waters - as do the fishermen!

Over 180,000 lakes, a long coastline and numerous rivers are there for your enjoyment: even at short notice, nearly half of the farm holiday sites in Finland offer fishing activities. Fishing guides familiar with local waters are on hand to advise beginners with equipment, to show visitors around top fishing spots and, when necessary, to demonstrate proper fishing techniques. Wherever in Finland your vacation takes you, you can find information on fishing opportunities and fishing guides at the nearest tourist information office or your own lodgings. The chances are you will be feasting on your own catch in no time.
