Helsinki Region Municipalities

Helsinki and Helsinki Region – Finland’s Capital Asset is the most populous area of the country, with a cluster of towns and attractions close to the capital. Even so, rolling countryside and woodlands extend in all directions, from the rugged wilderness of the Nuuksio National Park in the west, to the towns of Tuusula, site of Ainola the former home of composer Sibelius, to the picturesque towns of Porvoo and Loviisa to the east.

Helsinki’s immediate neighbours, Espoo to the west and Vantaa to the north, have their own attractions, such as the showpiece Tapiola ‘garden city’ in Espoo and the Heureka science centre in Vantaa, which is also the home of Helsinki’s international airport. Further afield, the picturesque seaside town of Tammisaari, the museums and shops in the old foundry community of Fiskars, and the wooden shoreside villas in the port of Hanko are exciting excursion destinations.
