The Midnight Sun Tour Touring
Inari - Utsjoki - Karigasniemi - Inari

INARI > UTSJOKI > KARIGASNIEMI > INARI (about 322 km)

Continue along route E75 to Kaamanen village and on to Utsjoki.

On the way you can visit Kevo Strict Nature Reserve. The main attraction in the Kevo Strict Nature Reserve is the 40-km long and in places almost 80-m deep Kevojoki canyon, the largest nature attraction in Northern Lapland. The canyon is about 30 km from Utsjoki centre, south towards Inari.

Utsjoki is the northernmost municipality in Finland and the only one with a Sámi majority. Utsjoki offers its services to all friends of nature, year round. The varying nature with many lakes and rivers and lots of different fish species will fulfil the most demanding sport fisherman’s dreams. Nuvvus-Ailigas, the holy fell of the ancient Sámi population, is the most impressive fell in Utsjoki, Northern Lapland. It towers 400 metres above the surface of Tenojoki River.

One of the most beautiful roads in Finland, route 970, goes south along the border between Finland and Norway, along the banks of Tenojoki River from Utsjoki to Karigasniemi and continues along route 92 back to Inari by way of Kaamanen village.

Additional Tour: Tour to Western Lapland in Finland through Norway

If you like, you can take a trip (about 800 km) from Karigasniemi to Norwegian Lapland, for example, to North Cape and come back to Finland by way of Kivilompolo or Kilpisjärvi.

The mountain village of Kilpisjärvi is located right on the border with Sweden and Norway in the breathtaking landscapes of the Arm of Finland. This is where you’ll find the only fells reaching more than 1 000 metres in all of Finland. Located just 40 km away, the surging Arctic Ocean with its magnificient fjords exerts its powerful maritime influence on the climate of Kilpisjärvi.

Iitto: In Iitto Permafrost Mound Bog, mounds metres tall (protected) on both sides of the road, nature trail (500 m) departs from Iitto, approximately 56 km north from Karesuvanto.

Järämä Fortification, known as Sturmbock-Stellung to the Germans, is located about 20 km from Karesuvanto village, in the direction of Kilpisjärvi. Wartime in Fell Lapland Exhibition. On the way inland is the village of Hetta, where you will find the most in terms of service, such as a post office, accommodation options, museums, activities, etc. Located on the shores of Lake Ounasjärvi and home to some 800 residents, the authentic and vibrant village of Hetta is, perhaps with good reason, considered one of Finland’s most beautiful parish villages. South of Hetta lies the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. Hetta is an outstanding base camp for day trips into Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. Boat taxi service across Lake Ounasjärvi.
