Via Karelia Route Touring
Via Karelia Route (895 km) and the Additional Tour Tohmajärvi - Joensuu - Kuopio - Nurmes (335 km)

The southern parts of the route travel through the typical Finnish lake landscape and the little towns of Karelia. After that, the landscape in Northern Karelia is transformed into a rolling landscape with signs of Orthodox culture. In Ilomantsi the route follows the second oldest border between two states in Europe.

To the north, the sprawling taiga forests with rich flora and the fells of Lapland dominate the landscape.
