National Rail

Finland's rail network has 5741 kilometers of tracks. Therefore, there is likely to be a train going your way! The network is modern and efficient and has state of the art trains including the tilting Pendolino train which connects Helsinki with cities including Turku and Tampere.

In addition to regular passengers trains, there are special car carrier trains for travelling to Lapland. On the train you can start your holiday comfortably by relaxing, socializing and planning your holiday programme. When you start your journey in the evening and have a good night's sleep in the sleeping car you can make the most out of the first day of your holiday. You can drive your car onto to the car-carrier wagon and continue your journey after a good night's sleep in the sleeping car.

Discounts
Several discount tickets are available such as children aged 6-16 years get 50% discount from the prices. Children under 6 years travel free of charge.The group reduction for 3 passengers is 15 % from the normal rate.

If you are planning to make a number of trips by rail, then the Finnrailpass is the best value way to do this. The Finnrailpass is good for unlimited travel on all trains in Finland. It is obtainable for passengers living permanently outside Finland. The Finnrailpass entitles the holder to travel for 3, 5 or 10 days within one month. The ticket is personal and the holder must show the ticket collector on the train his/her passport or identity card. Prices are between €122 and €331. Note that children aged 6-16 years pay half fare.

International Railway Tickets

Eurailpass
There are many different kinds of passes that can be used in Finland. You can choose the ticket validation from 15 days to three months and the places you can visit depends on your ticket type.

ScanRail Pass
ScanRail Pass offers you an excellent way to explore the vast regions of Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland in a limited amount of time. Again there are different types of tickets for you to choose from. Reduced prices for children (4-11), young people (12-25) and seniors (60-). The prices vary between €115 and €360.

The Inter Rail Ticket
With Inter Rail you can discover 29 countries in Europe and North Africa. Unlimited travel with Inter Rail allows you to explore the various aspects and diversities of your chosen destinations. The Inter Rail countries are divided into 8 zones. The Inter Rail Ticket is sold to anyone under 2 who is permanently resident in Europe or Nith Africa (Algeria, Morocco and Tunis). The ticket is also available for adults over 26 years and children under 12 years. Prices are between €150 and €560.

Rail Travelling between Russia and Finland

You can travel to Finland from Russia by train. There are three daily trains from St. Petersburg and Moscow to Helsinki. Reserved seat ticket and a Russian visa are obligatory. Dining cars run with the trains, but the Moscow train has sleeping cars only.
