Kenkävero Vicarage

Kenkävero

Hantverk- och seminariecenter , S:t Michel

Kenkävero is the biggest and the most beautiful wooden vicarage, with history going back 550 years. It has been restored and is now the site of a handicrafts and design centre, shop and a café-restaurant. Exhibitions all year round.

Kenkävero is a magnificent tourist attraction and prides itself on having the biggest and most beautiful vicarage in all Finland, in an impressive milieu. It has something to interest everyone at all times of the year: fine restored buildings, exciting exhibitions and events, exquisite handicrafts as gifts, souvenirs or simply to enjoy. In summer it is further enhanced by a garden and handicraft workshops, and delicious fare is served in the restaurant daily all year round.

Our temporary arts and crafts exhibitions feature products by the best artists, techniques and materials on a given theme. They always present stimulating, inspiring new ideas, along with traditional crafts. We also arrange events to tie in with the themes of our exhibitions. Visitors can watch live demonstrations and try handling materials for themselves at the workshops.

The wide selection of goods on sale at the Kenkävero shop consists of Finnish arts and crafts and luxury food products suitable as souvenirs or gifts. Adjoining the shop is an Opa factory outlet selling stainless-steel cookware and other items for the home. The Tefli factory shop sells dirt-repellent, easy-to-wipe table cloths.

In summer there are more shops in the storehouses and garden.

Five-hundred species of plant are to be found in the organic Kenkävero garden:
- some 200 species of herbs and medicinal plants
- fruit bushes
- useful annuals
- ornamental perennials

The garden has a biological toilet and a compost area for organic waste. In summer the garden has a shop selling perennial seedlings and other garden requisites, jams and other edible souvenirs to take home.
