The Moomin collection is based on author-artist Tove Jansson's (1914 - 2001) original Moomin production: Moomin books, illustrations and three-dimensional tableaux. The pearl of the collection is the blue, five-storey miniature Moomin house. Every room is lit, from the sauna downstairs to the guest room on the top floor. "The Story House" interactive computer application enables the visitor to wander from room to room and admire the fascinating details.
The Moomin collection includes over one thousand fairy tale illustrations and sketches, of which only a part is on display at a time. "The Original Moominvalley" multimedia programme provides the possibility of seeing all the original Moomin works. Details of the Moomin illustrations and tableaux charm people of all ages, their humour reaches beyond language boundaries. The size of the exhibition has been carefully planned, and the relaxing atmosphere of the Moominvalley also offers a unique experience for the adult visitor. The museum is ideally located in the heart of Tampere in the City Library Metso known for its architecture.
