Snow and Ice Accommodation

Have you ever wondered what it would feel like wrapping up in a warm sleeping bag, sipping on a hot drink and dozing off to sweet dreams in a bedroom made of snow? Nice and cosy, funny and exciting, or just plain incredible? Come and experience it yourself in the Finnish Lapland!

Fabulous snow castles – such as the annual SnowCastle at Kemi - and exotic igloos test the imaginations of designers and architects. Snow hotels, restaurants and galleries are spectacular works of art. You can spend the night in a snow hotel or get married in a snow chapel. You can even combine ice and fire. A snow sauna sounds impossible, but in Finland there are places where you can steam on ice.

Kemi Snow Castle - built every year since 1996, is an unforgettable experience for young and old. The castle and the SnowRestaurant are decorated with snow and ice sculptures enhanced by light and sound effects. Within the walls of the castle, you'll find several ice buildings. You can spend one of the most extraordinary nights of your life at the Mammut SnowHotel where the temperature in the hotel room is a crisp -5 C, but you'll nevertheless sleep warm in an Ajungilak sleeping bag. Also onsite is the charming Snow Chapel in which many couples has tied the knot over the years. The fabulous Snow Restaurant has long tables, reindeer skin-covered benches and Lappish delicacies are served. Children's World is a snowy playground with slides, hills, tunnels, and snowball pool.

The Snowcastle is completed at the end of January and closes in early April, although the Mammut Snow Hotel opens in early January. Kemi is located at the tip of the Golf Bothnia, not far from the Swedish border, below the Arctic Circle.

Hotel Kakslauttanen is located in the Saariselkä fell area amidst beautiful Lapland scenery in the vicinity if Urho Kekkonen National Park. In winter we offer a possibility to stay overnight in a traditional snow igloo or a unique futuristic glass igloo, where you can admire the northern lights in a normal room temperature under the glass ceiling. Igloo Village is also home to snow chapel and an ice bar both built every winter. Igloo Village is open every year from December/January and until the end of April.

Lainio Snow Village is set in beautiful wooded surrounds. It comprises of a Snow Hotel, an Ice Bar, restaurant and art gallery, a collection of coulourfully lit ice and snow sculptures dotted amongst the trees, an amazing ice maze and snow slides for children.

Lainio Snow Village opens its gates every year on the 1.December. Lainio, located in western part of Finnish Lapland, is a small village, close to two famous ski resorts: Ylläs and Levi. Lainio Snow Village lies about 150 km north of Lapland's capital Rovaniemi and the Arctic Circle.

There are two snow accommodation also in Rovaniemi: one is Arctic SnowHotel about 30 km from the city and another is Snowbrick where you can build your own iGloo and stay a night in it.
