Sustainable Finnish Design
Design is a state of mind in Finland and is woven seamlessly into everyday life. It is a way of living that embraces timeless beauty, sustainability and a harmonious relationship with the natural world.
Alvar Aalto, Finland’s most celebrated architect and designer, once said that “form must have a content and that content must be linked with nature.” Aalto gave equal measure to form and function and let the Finnish landscape be his muse. He took inspiration from the shapes and hues of the surrounding environment to create beautiful objects and liveable spaces. His unique brand of Organic Modernism sought to bring about a more humane quality to design and architecture that set Finland apart from its contemporaries in the early modernist movement and remains central to the design culture today.
