The Didrichsen Art Museum’s spring 2024 exhibition presents the Nordea Art Foundation Finland’s collection.
The Nordea Art Foundation Finland is a non-profit foundation that works for the benefit of Finnish art and art history research. Its collection of more than 1000 works is of national importance, and includes notable Finnish artworks from the 19th century and the Golden Age of Finnish Art. Also included is a wide range of art from the 20th century.
The exhibition presents a prominent selection from the collection. It explores the relationship between banks and art, and studies individual works in their historical context. Art also mirrors changes in society. The Art Foundation’s collection, itself combined from several collections, illustrates the accumulation of art by Finnish commercial banks. The themes of the works emphasize the Finnish landscape and the depiction of the people, while the modern revolution of the early 20th century and the strong position of abstract art from the 1950s onwards are also visible.
