The Kiilopää Ski Event kicks off the ski season in the northern fell landscapes. In 2026, this darkest ski event of the year will be held 12.12.2026.

The Kiilopää Ski Event features distances for both recreational skiers and competitive skiers. There are three different series;

🎿25 km ski tour offers a peaceful yet rewarding experience for those who want to take it easy and enjoy the magical winter forest. There are shortcuts on the route, through which you can get back to Kiilopää via a shorter route. The shortest route is about 10 km.

🏔️ 40 km main race provides a timed challenge for competitive skiers and anyone looking to push their limits.

🌲 5 km route is perfect for those who prefer a shorter, more relaxed adventure and for children.

During the Kiilopää Ski Event, the blue twilight of the polar night and the winding cross-country trail through the snowy forest invite fitness skiers to experience a unique skiing adventure. The event offers a unique opportunity to ski in varied terrain within Urho Kekkonen National Park, mainly outside the regular ski trails. The route is a traditional wilderness trail, groomed by snowmobile and track planer.
