Baking Traditional Carelian Pies

Carelian pies (Karjalanpiirakka in Finnish) have a Traditional Specialty Guaranteed (TSG) status in Europe. Metsäkartano Youth Centre offers a workshop where you can bake and taste these traditional Finnish delicacies yourself.

During this Carelian pie workshop we will bake together rye crusted pies filled with rice porridge and eat them warm from oven with traditional egg butter.

The goal of the workshop is to give participants skills to bake traditional pastry and learn more about Finnish food culture.

Instructor will give basic information about the baking process and the participants will be in charge of baking pastries for their own meal. At the end of the program baked pastries will be eaten together while reflecting the activity. Metsäkartano Youth Centre provides all equipment and ingredients used in the workshop.

Inform the instructor in advance if you have gluten allergy or you are sensitive to dust.
