Shopkeeper´s Museum
The buildings of Shopkeeper’s House Museum were built upon the ruins left by the Great Fire that swept through Hamina in 1840. Over the years, the house and its courtyard have been home and workplace to various craftsmen and their families, including a master cobbler, a quilt maker, a coppersmith, and a master carpenter. The last residents were the Muravjev family, who ran a shop in the building.
Visiting this museum is like a journey back in time! As soon as you step into the shop, your eyes meet charming jars and various wares lining the shelves, whisking you away to days gone by. The experience deepens as you enter the courtyard, enclosed by the historic buildings, where the modern world is left behind.
While exploring, you can peer into the horse stable and the traditional outhouse, discover the blacksmith’s working conditions in the old brick forge and admire the unique view over the historic rooftops of Hamina from the blacksmith’s quarters.
