Hetta-Pallas autumn hike 9.9-12.9.2026
Join us for an authentic fell trekking experience along Finland’s oldest hiking trail, first marked in the terrain as early as 1934.
This iconic route leads through breathtaking fell landscapes and is one of Finland’s most renowned long-distance hiking trails.
The trek takes place in Western Lapland, in Pallas–Yllästunturi National Park, along the historic Hetta–Pallas trail. What makes this route truly unique is its extensive open fell terrain: approximately 40 kilometres of the route are walked above the tree line, offering wide-open views across the surrounding wilderness.
The hike is scheduled for early September, a time when the autumn colours in Northern Lapland are typically at their most vibrant. During this period, the leaves, dwarf shrubs and grasses display a stunning range of colours, creating a truly memorable setting for the trek.
During the hike we will stay overnight in tents. Upon separate request, it may also be possible to stay in reservable wilderness huts. These huts are equipped with a wood-burning stove and firewood for heating, a gas stove, basic cooking utensils, and beds with mattresses, pillows and blankets. However, for hygiene reasons, we recommend bringing your own lightweight sleeping pad and sleeping bag even when staying in huts.
In terms of elevation changes, terrain and footing, the route can be considered moderately demanding. In addition, the open fell sections make the trail exposed to wind. Despite this, the hike is also suitable for beginners with good basic fitness, as our pace throughout the trek is calm and unhurried.
