The Maritime Museum of Finland is a national maritime museum whose mission is to record the history of Finnish shipping and pass on information. The Maritime Museum collects and stores objects, images, archival material and literature related to seafaring and boating.


The Maritime Museum is located in Kotka in the Maritime Centre Vellamo, whose other operators are Kymenlaakso museum, restaurant Laakonki and museum shop Plootu. As a whole, the Maritime Centre Vellamo forms one of the most important tourist destinations in the province.


The Maritime Museum's main exhibition "North Star, Southern Cross" tells about the history and present day of seafaring by themes. The main themes are the seafarer, sea trade, ships, ship travel and navigation. The central element of the exhibition is the specialty of our northern shipping, winter shipping. The museum's main exhibition offers functional ways to get to know the history and present day of Finnish shipping. The main exhibition is complemented by changing exhibitions.
