Two Green Design Capitals, guided tour from Helsinki to Lahti

Duración 9 horas

The World Design Capital status united Helsinki and Lahti in 2012. Since then, both have strived to be at the forefront of international sustainable development.

Helsinki is located by one of the world's most sensitive small seas, the Baltic Sea. Helsinki is the capital of Finland and the world's most sustainable tourist destination. Lahti was the European Green Capital 2021, located on the shores of the ecologically restored Lake Vesijärvi.

We will explore Helsinki on foot for 2 hours. You will hear about the sustainable actions of the city and its residents in different eras. At the same time, you will become familiar with the city's history, present and future. The walk ends at the main train station, where VR's green train will take you to Lahti. The journey takes 50-70 minutes.

The legacy of the capital years still lives on in Lahti in several ways; 99% of municipal waste is recycled in Lahti, there are companies focused on the circular economy in the area and Lahti has the cleanest tap water in the world.

“During the day, it will also be revealed what efforts have been made in both cities to achieve success and can we jump long enough.”

Depending on the group size and the time of year, we can get around Lahti by city bikes, public transport, or a low-emission car. You will get to know Lahti for about 3 hours.

Travel back to Helsinki by green train.
