The Sound of the Drum – A Connection to Ancient Tradition (Pelkosenniemi)
A drum circle is a ceremonial experience created with sound. It is also an inner journey into oneself, into your own thoughts and feelings. Everyone can join the sound journey in the way that feels right for them—by drumming, shaking a rattle, singing, humming, making other sounds, dancing, or simply relaxing and being present. In a drum circle, there are no wrong notes. Many people experience it as meditative and empowering. For some, it is also a way to explore themselves and find answers to questions that are on their mind.
The drum circle technique uses imagination, visual thinking, and an open mind. We connect with our inner world and the deeper parts of our mind, while also using sound and movement—from drumming to dancing.
A drum circle can sometimes bring strong emotions or memories to the surface. For this reason, it is not recommended for someone who is in an acute life crisis or for individuals with serious mental health challenges (ask if you are unsure whether the drum circle is suitable for you). To keep the mind clear, the event is substance free.
In Minna’s drum circles, ancient Finnish nature wisdom, worldview, and way of life are explored. Minna’s approach to the drum circle is rooted in the timeless northern spiritual tradition, while also acknowledging the networks (and collective knowledge) we have always created both in this reality and beyond, universally.
EVENT STRUCTURE: Almost every drum circle includes first timers, so we begin with a brief introduction to the basics. After this comes the ceremony that separates us from everyday life: opening words, the drumming session, and closing words. After the drumming, we reserve time for discussion and sharing experiences.
The event location can be arranged according to your wishes.
